I was given this book by the author through the M/M Romance Group’s ‘Don’t Buy My Love,’ review program for an honest review.

Chosen by the Billionaire is the story of Liam Jayson, personal assistant to CEO Sebastian Haley and their growing relationship during the backdrop of a reality dating show that Sebastian is staring in.

Like Liam, I don’t like reality shows so wanted to see how the author could write an interesting story around a reality show that didn’t bore me to death. Surprisingly, the author did.

Liam Jayson is the assistant to CEO Sebastian Haley. Liam likes Sebastian, but Liam is also a stickler for rules, and one of those rules is, don’t get involved with the boss. He sticks to this belief almost until the bitter end.

Sebastian Haley appreciates all the help Liam gives him, but has never looked at Liam in a romantic way. When he’s offered a chance to appear on a gay reality show to find a partner he goes for it. Part of the reason is that he believes it is good publicity for a new dating app that his company is producing. The other is he really is looking for a partner.

Liam and Sebastian become more closely involved with each other during his time making the show. And as the contestants are voted off, Sebastian realizes that he’s comparing all the men to Liam. Liam’s feelings for Sebastian increase during this time, but he’s sticking to his guns on not dating the boss.

I knew how this story would end, but I was curious how the author would go about solving the problem. I liked the little twist that happened to make everyone get their HEA.

A few times Sebastian seemed insecure and he let Liam take the lead in making decisions related to their relationship. Sometimes the scenes between them, when not focused on the show or work, seemed like teenagers muddling their way through a relationship. At the end we find that Liam likes being dominated, and following orders, and that might have worked in Sebastian’s favor if he had pushed the point of them dating during the show.

The part where I had the most trouble with the story was the ending sex scene. I can only describe it as ‘Harlequin Romance.’ It was like the author was describing a romanticized version of a sex scene between a guy and a girl where Liam, sounded like the girl. Even the actions were almost an idealized wedding night between a guy and a virgin girl. I had a hard time trying not to skim read through the sex scene. I also didn’t feel the connection between Liam and Sebastian that had been building throughout the whole story. The sex and the ending were a disappointment for me.

I enjoyed this story quite a bit. It was sweet with not much angst. It might be a little on the slow side for some people, but I liked the gradual build-up of Liam and Sebastian’s relationship and how Sebastian came to realize that Liam was the one for him. The writing was smooth, easy to read, and I didn’t find many errors. The sex scene was the only part of the story that I didn’t enjoy, and it could just be a matter of personal preference but may appeal to others. I give this story 4 Stars
