This is a fairly easy chapter book that takes children on a wile ride with Andrew. The author makes the reader feel as if they are right on board with Andrew throughout the entire story. The book also contains many scientific facts about the animals and creatures that are included throughout the story.

Andrew is always making up new inventions and his inventions are always backfiring on him. Andrew's newest invention actually ended up shrinking him and judy down to the size of bugs. They rode on the back of a bat and the bat ended up taking them to a cave. They have to go through many obstacles but they finally make it out of the cave. The book ends with the children getting stuck on a bird and actually riding the bird too. This would be a great book to read for any child in a 3rd grade class.

This book is an adventure that went bad. The children, Judy, Thudd, and Andrew were shrunk down into the size of bugs. After they are shrunk down, they become lost in a cave filled with bats. Because bats love to eat bugs they are really worried for their safety. The three main characters are riding along on a baby bats back where they have to avoid getting eaten.

The following website is filled with information about this book along with main themes throuhttp://www.kidsreads.com/series/series-andrew-lost-titles.aspghout the story. ( )

Andrew Lost: With the Bats is book number 14 in J.C. Greenburg's series. It is about Andrew and his older cousin Judy who have been shrunk down to the size of bugs thanks to a glitch with one of Andrew's (untrustworthy) inventions. They are picked up by a bat and dropped into a spooky cave where they must escape! This book kind of reminded me of The Magic School Bus series because they go on a very educational adventure through the cave. They encounter countless obstacles while trying to escape, such as batteling beetles while traveling in guano (bat poop) and using a bug's shedded skeleton for protection and as a boat. I would recommend this series to children who love going on adventures because they will enjoy the experience without even realizing they are learning!
