OK story, very interesting worldbuilding. Becker and Jayna. Becker gets caught up in a firefight - with a band of other werewolves! Insta-love, of course, when he runs into Jayna among them - fortunately, she and her pack are relative innocents caught up in nastiness. We learn a _lot_ more about werewolves - there are sorts other than Alphas, for instance (Alphas, Betas, and Omegas). It makes me wonder who taught Gabe what he knows, because there are some major holes in what he's passed on to the SWAT team (and sometimes he seems to know things when they learn them, and sometimes he's surprised too). The story is OK - a lot of very lucky coincidences, and apparently a couple ongoing villains have been generated. The romance is still rather formulaic - boy meets girl, Obstacles intervene, unhappy separation, reunion, happy ever after. The fact that they're both werewolves puts some mildly interesting twists into it, though. ( )

This series gets better with each book and in this one we are additionally introduced to beta's and omega's expanding the world building in the series.

Next up on the SWAT team to find “the one” is Eric Becker and boy was he given quite the complex woman. Jayna Winston was 17 when she first turned during a harrowing ordeal with her step dad. After running away she ends up with pack of werewolf's that she comes to care deeply about. Four years later the supposed Alpha of that group has them involved in illegal activities with a family of mobsters. Eric and Jayna lives intersect during a SWAT mission to catch the mobsters. SWAT had no idea that the mobsters had hired a group of werewolves to do their dirty work and things get quite messy. Eric ends up meeting Jayna during a shootout in the warehouse and hides her from both her team and his for her safety. Afterwards Eric realizes that she is “the one” and after finding her and realizing the predicament she and her pack are in goes in undercover to try and help bring down the mobsters and rogue omega's.

I liked the introduction of the new type of werewolves. As we learned in the second book women can also be Alpha's which Jayna clearly was but had no idea until Eric showed her. Where the last book in the series showed us the inner workings of the SWAT team this one focused more on the actual pact hierarchy. Jayna had become very close to a group of beta's who are very loyal to her. The other type we were introduced to was the Omega's who were portrayed as having no loyalty to anyone but themselves and not able to control their inner wolves as well.

There are plenty more SWAT members stories to tell and I looked forward to them and the world building that the author is doing throughout the series. ( )

Jayna Winston knows that she's far out of her depth. Her alpha put her pack in debt because they didn't have enough money for food and now they have to pull off criminal jobs to pay off the debt. As a beta, there isn't much that Jayna can do about the situation, except for to protect her fellow betas to the best of her ability against the cold hearted Omegas and mobster her alpha has gotten her pack into bed with.

It all comes to a head during a jewelry heist when the Omegas take off, leaving her to face the alpha werewolf Dallas SWAT team. For some reason, instead of arresting her, Eric Becker hides her from the rest of the SWAT officers. Jayna knows Eric is a cop but somehow she cannot help thinking about how he saved her and the fact that she's so attracted to him. With everything going on, Jayna doesn't think she has time for a romance but Eric has different ideas.

For some reason, each time one of the swat finds THE ONE, they decide to withhold information from their pack. In this case, it's particularly ridiculous and dangerous. Because Jayna is involved with the mob, Eric goes undercover as muscle for hire and the only one who knows is his best friend Cooper. Being a member of Swat and having the experience of having a previous undercover operation go wrong, should have been enough for Eric to show some common sense if not caution. It's an absolute betrayal of trust but of course, after a little huffing and puffing, everything is forgiven because Jayna's THE ONE.

One of the things I really did like about In the Company of Wolves, is that Tyler made a great point of having Eric repeatedly check to see if Jayna was okay with their sexual activity. He never pushed her and allowed Jayna to set the pace of their relationship. It's not often that consent is so explicit in this genre and I for one really appreciated it.

This the third book in the SWAT: Special Wolf Alpha Team series and it has become formulaic in terms of the romance. It's clear now that each SWAT member will meet THE ONE (though it's supposed to be a rare thing) have some small problem to overcome and then reach HEA. What made In the Company of Wolves tolerable is that Tyler added a little new information about her wolves. It's clear, not even the Alphas know all of the ways in which werewolves manifest or what potential powers they many have. Tyler introduced the concept of Omega wolves (wolves who have control issues and don't do pack life well) and Beta wolves (wolves who are not as strong as Alphas but bond extremely well with other wolves.)

Because In the Company of Wolves involved mobsters, there was a lot more action than previous books. It was fine up until the last fight scene which absolutely ended my ability to suspend belief. Yes, Eric is a werewolf which means that he can take a lot of punishment; however, having him shot several times and then stabbed and still somehow managing to get up and keep fighting was ridiculous.

The writing continues to be purple nonsense in this series.
But as much as he’d enjoyed racing Jayna, he’d liked the benefits that came with it even more—the view of her ass in those curve-hugging jeans and the pheromones coming off her incredible body. In fact, he was having a hard time figuring out which one of those things had come closest to making him nearly pass out. (pg 56)
Yeah, I think that someone might need to go to the doctor if seeing an ass is enough to make one lose consciousness. It's a wonder that he doesn't pass out just going for a leisurely walk when he sees a woman in hot pants.

Then there's this:
And then there was his cock. She hadn’t been with a lot of guys, so she hadn’t seen a lot, but she had a feeling Eric’s was special, which was fitting, she supposed, since he was a very special werewolf. (pg 114)
So what exactly makes Eric's junk so special? It's just nonsense. And you'll note that this means that Jayna is gently used, thus making her character a complete trope. Not only is she gently used, Jayna she has a tragic backstory as well. We cannot possibly have a female love interest without a dead parent, (check her father's dead) and tragedy ( her step-father tried to rape her) and of course little experience with men: check check check.

I have been a total cover whore for this series by [a:Paige Tyler|2300692|Paige Tyler|https://d.gr-assets.com/authors/1434406563p2/2300692.jpg]. Luckily, the stories do not disappoint. I mean, what's not to like about a SWAT team comprised of seventeen alpha male (and one female) werewolves?

So this is the third installment of the SWAT series, and we learn a lot more about werewolf society in this installment. While our SWAT team is made up solely of alpha wolves, we are now introduced to betas and omegas. It's kinda weird that none of the SWAT Team (besides Gage) knows anything about other werewolves. You would think that would be something he would want to teach them as soon as they turn and he recruits them to the team. But anywho, it is what it is.

So our hero in this installment is Eric Becker, he who is obsessed with yoga pants. I can't remember much else about him from past books besides that little tidbit. Becker goes out of his way to help our heroine, Jayne Winston, and her pack, out of a very bad situation. While he may be an alpha werewolf, I didn't find him to be all that demanding like most alphas are. Once he fell head over tail in love/lust at first sight/sniff with Jayna, he seems pretty considerate and understanding. He was a nice guy, but he didn't have that broody quality that I usually like. Overall I liked him, but not quite as much as Xander and Gage.

Jayna Winston is a tortured heroine who grew up in a crappy home and gained her werewolf abilities during a horrible incident with her lecherous stepfather. Once she left home, she was taken in by a pack who now has her loyalty. Only her alpha has gotten them into a dangerous situation with some mobsters. Jayna has never heard about the fated mate aspect of werewolves, so she does not understand her extreme attraction to Becker. And given her past, she is understandably gunshy about sexual entanglements. I liked Jayna. I was a little worried that she was going to push Becker away, but she impressed me with her willingness to accept his help and give the relationship a shot.

The action and suspense in this story was pretty good. The Albanian mobsters were super greedy and sociopathic, and Liam was easy to hate. This book was not quite as steamy as the last one, but it still had a good heat factor. Becker and Jayna were a little more low key given Jayna's past. Cooper played a bigger part in this book as a secondary character, and I like him quite a bit so I am looking forward to his story.

IN THE COMPANY OF WOLVES was fast-paced, packed with action, full of danger and had plenty of romance to round it all out.

Jayna's pack has been roped into their alpha's debt and to pay it off they have to become criminals and they don't see a way out. I found Jayna to be extremely loyal and protective to her pack, pretty strong in her beliefs and able to hold her own in the face of danger. Eric and the rest of the SWAT team are there to catch the new gang of criminals in action, but he can't make himself bust the beautiful woman that's in front of him, so instead he hides her. He can't get her out of his mind and he is positive she can't be the criminal he things she is. I loved how loyal he was to her and her pack, but I think he should have asked for more help from the rest of HIS pack.

Jayna and Eric ended up making it to the top of my SWAT couple list by the end of IN THE COMPANY OF WOLVES. They both complimented each other really well and although they had an instant connection, I felt that they did a really good job of building off of it and getting to know each other before they fell into bed together. All the danger involved in them sneaking around was super fun too.

I enjoyed learning about the new werewolves in IN THE COMPANY OF WOLVES. The new shifter ranks (is that he right word?) really helped to build the world better. I really enjoyed the plot, but I do have one complaint. I really miss having the rest of the SWAT team present. Watching them work together is one of the great things about this series. Hopefully book four will have them all back together for a good chunk of the book to make up for it. Which sexy alpha will be featured next?
