As was clear by the end of the previous book, Tyler, Jax, and Nicky have gotten themselves into a right mess – what with the bloodlust and its unexpected effects. The focus in this eleventh book of the ‘Dark Hollows Wolf Pack’ series focuses mainly on Nicky and his growing issues with his new wolf as well as his mate, Alpha Marco. But the problem of pets developing wolves and alpha traits goes beyond these two, as does the continuing threat of Jeremy Tate and his sinister plans. In another action-packed and suspenseful volume, ‘Heartsblood’ provides an intense story that held me glued to the pages.

Nicky is getting increasingly more irritated and plain nasty to people he used to call his friends. He has no idea what is causing is, but on top of his continued physical growth it makes for more than a few tense moments. And as for his wolf? The beast seems intent on attacking everyone, including Marc, and Nicky just knows it is crazy. Not that anyone believes him, until they “force” the wolf to show himself and all hell breaks loose.

Marco is trying to be patient with Nicky, but the new belligerence is almost unbearable. Marco does an admirable job at holding back and trying to understand, but it is almost too much. It isn’t until the other alphas suggest a plan for “taming” Nicky’s wolf that Marco begins to realize what the real problem may be, but by then, it is almost too late. Their old enemy is back, and his newest plan is more harebrained and dangerous than ever.

If you like stories about couples struggling with significant changes in one of the partner’s personality, if you want to know how Nicky an Marco deal with the next step in their developing relationship and if you’re looking for a read that is as suspenseful as it is packed with man-on-man loving, then yu will probably like this novella.
