What a conclusion to the 'Bushranger' saga! There have been a few hints in the previous three books that not all may be as it seems, but to see the full magnitude of the truth behind what’s been going on unfold was still as surprising as it was unexpected. There is so much going on in this novel that I felt close to overwhelmed at times, but it’s all woven together in such a clever way that it actually makes sense. That is, if you read this series in order – the slow buildup since book one, the accumulation of evidence, and the characters’ development are so well done and should not be missed.

Jim and Mark are still on the run and with Mark planning to rob a train, Jim figures that is never going to change and leaves Mark – he just cannot stand the violence and the idea that people might get hurt. Mark has the perfect plan, or so he thinks, and he is determined to obtain enough gold so they can leave the country and finally live in peace. But when Mark can’t stand being apart from Jim any more than Jim can live without him, they end up being caught and land in jail – yet again.

Unexpectedly, Mark’s bother, Ramone, is able to free them and get them on a ship back to Spain, the country where he lives and Mark was born. And that is when the real revelations begin, and this novel takes off into a totally unexpected direction. Mark had shown signs of “weirdness” before, but that was nothing compared to what happens in this fourth book. Wow!

If you like stories with a major dose of paranormal, if you want to find out what Jim and Mark have to face once they are finally safe from the law, and if you’re looking for a read that is full of mystery, suspense, adventure, and some astonishing revelations, then you will probably like this novel.
