In Paris, cafés and cats go hand in paw. Far away from the famous runways in the world capital of fashion, the biggest divas in town can be found strutting their stuff down the zinc bar of many a local hot spot. This book introduces eighteen of Paris's most beloved cats as they take us for a stroll past the city's monuments and inside the charming and quintessentially Parisian spots they call home. From her perch in an upstairs window at the legendary Shakespeare and Company bookstore, Kitty surveys the comings and goings of boats along the Seine and visitors at Notre-Dame. Swiffer at Le Café Zéphyr lures customers in from the bustle of the boulevard Haussman to enjoy a café or glass of wine in the colonial interior. Inside the Bristol, the exotic pedigreed Fa-raon enjoys pampering worthy of the palace hotel's paying clientele. And the Montmartre museum's feline inhabitant not only looks like the iconic black cat from the ever-popular poster for the Chat Noir cabaret, but he was named after the nightclub's founder Rodolphe Salis. These eighteen unforgettable cats offer a unique and irresistible Parisian tour.… (plus d'informations)

This was quite a lovely book about various cats in Paris, France and their adopted homes in various restaurants, bookshops, museums and art studios. The biographies and backgrounds provide the stories about both the cats and their homes where they were often the in-house rodent control until settling down as resident attractions for both local regular customers and for tourists. lt made me wonder about how many other photography and story books could be written about the feline (or canine) inhabitants of locations around the world. There is certainly an added mystique and aura about Paris though that adds to the atmosphere here though.

This book appeared simultaneously in French as "Chats parisiens", so I am not sure which is the original and which is the translation. The beautiful photographs are by Nadia Benchallal who must have had a lot of patience to capture all of the images here. ( )
