One star off because I'm anal about reviewing and have to read every single page. And I kind of like the front to back. Choose Your Own Adventures always made me twitch; how did I know I'd read the whole book? I didn't have the patience to go back over every single scenario, so I tended to read front to back at some point which isn't the best option out there.
That being said, there were enough characters in this book to give you twist and turns, even ones that didn't include the Dinobots at all. The focus was still on Grimlock, Snarl, Sludge, Slag and Swoop, though, and by leaving Swoop free of Bombshell's cerebro-shells, it gives the book an opening to get the other Autobots involved. In other words, the stories all tie together, the characters are in character - some more so than others, and it's a pretty fun ride.
Not worth taking a star off, or even half a star, but worth a mention. This book is illustrated, and I have mixed feelings about them. Some really hit me the wrong way, but most were decent to good. The front cover illustration - a painting - is the best by far. The inside illustrations are reproduced pencil drawings.
I'd only really suggest this if you have a child who's into Transformers, or are as massive a Dinobot fan as I am. It's good, but definitely aimed at younger children. If you don't need an immediate fix of Dinobots, there's simply much better Transformers fiction out there. Try the More Than Meets the Eye and Robots in Disguise series! ( )
