No secret stays buried forever. "...a twisty tale that keeps readers guessing right up to the heart-stopping climax." --Shannon Baker, author of the Kate Fox Mystery Series When a torrential rainstorm uncovers a hidden corpse, small-town reporter Leah Nash is called in to cover the story. The body is identified as Sister Mattea Riordan. Leah knew her. She was a nun who worked as an administrator at DeMoss Academy, the local school for troubled kids. The same school that Leah's sister Lacey attended when she died in a tragic accident five years earlier. The property at DeMoss Academy includes a large woods and a stretch of bluffs high above the Himmel River. Investigators think it was from this location that Sister Mattea plunged to her death and drowned. But that's not the shocking part. Just before she died, Sister Mattea sent Leah a cryptic message. And it had something to do with Leah's sister... What if Lacey's death wasn't an accident? What if it was a murder? What if that same person killed Sister Mattea to cover their misdeeds? That would mean the killer is still out there. Now Leah is determined to uncover the truth. Even if the killer comes after her next... DANGEROUS HABITS is the first book in the Leah Nash Mystery Series written by former reporter, Susan Hunter. Filled with suspenseful twists and turns, this fictional investigative series is great for fans of Lisa Gardner and Karin Slaughter. ________________ What readers are saying about the Leah Nash Mystery Series: ★★★★★ "What a page-turner!" ★★★★★ "Hunter can really weave a plot." ★★★★★ "...twisty and suspenseful storyline..." ★★★★★ "You never know "whodunnit" until the very end!" ★★★★★ "I thought I figured out whodunnit, but I was wrong."… (plus d'informations)

Newspaper reporter, Leah Nash, has spent years putting her sister's death behind her, but when new evidence comes to light suggesting it might not have been an accident, Leah finds herself unable to let go until every angle is investigated and the truth is known.

I enjoyed this. It's a decent procedural with a few slight cozy mystery elements. The plot line is logical and unfolds in a fairly straightforward manner. But the plot and characters lack feeling and are kind of bland. Leah is the strongest character of them all but never really passes brash and stubborn. Her determination to solve her sister is the driving force and while admirable, is also kind of boring. I wanted to know her reasons for being a reporter and her hobbies and interests outside of this one case but they were mostly ignored. Consequently, Leah's relationships with the other characters suffered for it. Her friendship with Miguel had a few sparks, as did her relationship with her mum - but neither managed to distinguish themselves as unique and it was disappointing.

Leah was a bit of a mess. She drove me mad at points. I liked her stubbornness but I also wanted her to stop jumping at every possible lead. She doesn't research and assess - she leaps to a conclusion and refuses to adapt even when she's wrong. It was annoying. But for all Leah didn't budge from her opinion, the clues were revealed to her, allowing the reader to make their own conclusions. I enjoyed the twists the investigation took and was surprised by the who the guilty party was which is always nice. I'll definitely be reading more of this series. 3.5 stars. ( )

Reporter Leah Nash investigates the death of her sister five years previously -unfortunately I didn't like the main character but I did finish the book. ( )

Mediocre writing and, worse, over-the-top, outrageous, unbelievable plot. Characters so underdeveloped that they are not even as complicated as cardboard cutouts.

Don’t waste your time—life is too short. ( )

This account of solving the mysteries kept the pace at a good lick, despite all the details. The main character's precipitous personality and the multi faceted plot contributed to the liveliness of the story. The writing was good. All the characters were good for the story. ( )

I read a whole lot of books each year, and about 75% are within the mystery/suspense/thriller genre. An unfortunate byproduct of reading so many mystery novels is that it's now rare that an author totally surprises me with a twist. Susan Hunter manages to do just that more than once within this book. This story took me places that caught me totally off guard in the most fantastic way.

I love Leah's character. She's fabulously flawed and totally human. I especially appreciate that she is a strong and independent female who doesn't need a man to rescue her, fix her, or complete her.

All the characters are unique and fun to spend time with. I enjoyed the interplay between them. The relationships and the dialogue feel real.

While I love series fiction, I definitely prefer that each story stands on its own, and this book absolutely does. The major plot is resolved, with no cliffhanger making you feel like you have to read the next book in order to find out what happens. Rather than feeling forced on to the next book, I've been captured and hooked, so I can't wait to read the next one! ( )
