The first 25% of the book us full of "As you know, Bob" exposition. The entire book is full of women being referred to as whores. Even the main character is judged *by her brothers* on her worthiness to be fucked, and they guard her virtue as if she is their possession. Why two stars, not one? I like the writing style and think it suits the character. I am interested in Khara and in how she changes and adapts. And the damn plot twist at the end is my kryptonite. (Provided by publisher.) Unborn Unborn, Book 1 By: Amber Lynn Natusch Narrated by: Angela Dawe I really liked this book! It has Greek gods, angels, demons, creatures of different kinds, and wonderful characters coming together in a great plot. A girl born from an angel and Ares is raised in secret in Underworld by Hades. Hades loves the girl like his own. But she is stolen by the Fallen when she is a teen. She is dropped off in Detroit, (it must be like home, lol). It just so happens she finds out she has brothers there. So much happens and it is so exciting! Never a dull moment! Everyone seems to be after her! The narrator is wonderful! She has to sound like someone that has been desensitized to all horrifying experiences and sights. She does it perfect. Great performance. I have been trying to find the right words to describe how I feel while/after reading this book. And these are the words I came up with: enthralling, captivating, intriguing and I'll throw in nail biting, too. LOL! It's true this book definitely enthralled me from the very beginning. Each page/chapter captured my interest to the very end. This kind of book is one of the very reasons why I love to read. It definitely takes you to a wonderful, thrilling, dark and mysterious journey of fallen angels, the underworld, and of course the life of the PC(s). But the Greek Mythology reference was nothing new to me especially regarding Demeter and her daughter Persephone (read a lot about her from another paranormal YA book and another author). Although, their story intertwined perfectly to the main character of this book, Khara. Amber Lynn Natusch and "The Caged Series", was introduced to me by my friend and "sole" sister. After reading the series, I fell in love with every book that she wrote and this book is another book I'll add in my favorite list. But I've got to admit that since this book took awhile to come out, I had to refer back to the Caged series and browse through it... so it could refresh my mind. The enigmatic and audacious Oz is my favorite character in this book. And I also enjoyed the banter between Oz and Khara. Of course, it ended with an oh-so-familiar cliffhanger which left me wanting for more (as always). Yes, this is definitely another series I'll be addicted to. The cover looked cool. So I decided to read it.
It is one of those novels where you better don't stop and start to think about it. It is fast paced and an easy read, which makes it perfect to relax but not much more than that. The main character is thrown into the hands of a band of vigilante brothers who actually turn out to be HER brothers. It's that kind of book. So don't expect anything deep, but it is a fast read.
Might continue anyway, since I already have a copy of the second book.
Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for providing me with a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review! ( )
