( ) A fire at the county services building leaves a woman dead. Suzanne smelled the fire just minutes before it exploded. When fire investigators find it to be arson, Suzanne decides to assist Sheriff Doogie investigate. She finds several useful clues which endanger her and lead to the killer. While I gave this one 3 stars, it really falls a little short of that. I seem to enjoy the series a little less with each installment. (I actually read books 7 and 8 before this one.) I love this series. I love the women in this series, with all their personal frailties and flaws. In creating this series, I'm not sure she intended to, but it seems she has hit upon many of the facets of a woman's life stages (through the varying characters)- it's an interesting concept to see them grow, live and share amongst themselves- and solve murders! I'll be honest I had no idea whodunnit, so I felt -- well I can't really say, cause that would lead you to know who actually did do it, if you're going to read it... I did enjoy this visit to Kindred, and a closer look at a slice of this small town's life. Scorched Eggs is the sixth book in the A Cackleberry Club Mystery series. Another enjoyable visit with residents of Kindred and fun times at the Cackleberry Diner. You might say it was a hot time in the old town, as someone torched the County Services Building. Just as Suzanne was leaving the Root 66 hair salon she notices the smell of something burning and within seconds a loud explosion rips through the building. Annie Wolfson and her daughter were rescued, but Hannah Venable, secretary to the county agent, perished in the fire. After receiving a telephone tip, Sheriff Doogie arrests Ricky Wilcox and stolen blasting caps are found in Wilcox's car. Suzanne doesn't feel that he is the guilty party and begins to look around for a more likely person. Annie Wolfson is estranged from her husband, possibly he wanted revenge for leaving him. Also Hannah and Jack Venable were having marital problems and when Suzanne finds that Jack has sold his wife's wedding ring to the pawn shop, he also goes on the suspect list, Darrel Fuhrman, a firefighter who had been relieved of duty, was at the fire scene and maybe this was his way of getting back at the department. Now to learn who is guilty before they burn her. It's always a treat to sit at the counter and enjoy the banter of Suzanne, Toni and Petra and to enjoy the delicious food they prepare. And Doogie, he may tell Suzanne to stay out police business, but he knows deep down that she can learn things that people won't confide with to him. Delicious sounding recipes are also included in the book. Looking forward to the next book in the Cackleberry Club series. Suzanne along with her two partners, Toni and Petra, run the Cackleberry Club. On a rare afternoon off, Suzanne is at the town hair salon, when the building next door goes up in flames, killing a friend of Petra's. With pleas from her friends, Suzanne sets out to find the reason for the fire and why the victim died. In the meantime, Suzanne is also caring for a baby owl, preparing for the County fair, and the Dinner Theatre that will be at the Cackleberry Club. The story is fun, keeping the reader entertained, solving the mystery as well as seeing our favorites grow. aucune critique | ajouter une critique
