"From the #1 New York Times-bestselling author, a brand-new series about the Cold War-and a different breed of warrior. In the first weeks after World War II, a squeaky-clean new second lieutenant named James D. Cronley Jr. is spotted and recruited for a new enterprise that will eventually be transformed into something called the CIA. One war may have ended, but another one has already begun, against an enemy that is bigger, smarter, and more vicious: the Soviet Union. The Soviets have hit the ground running, and Cronley's job is to help frustrate them, harass them, and spy on them any way he can. His recruiter thinks he has the potential to become an asset-though, of course, he could also screw up spectacularly. And in his first assignment, it looks like that's exactly what might happen. He's got seven days to extract a vital piece of information from a Soviet agent, but Cronley's managed to rile up his superior officers (he seems to have a talent for it), and if he fails, it could be one of the shortest intelligence careers in history. There are enemies everywhere-and, as Cronley is about to find out, some of them even wear the same uniform he does"--… (plus d'informations)

Hopeful? I liked the story but not the way the author kept repeating unessary military titles. a lot of wasted pages ( )

I finished the book but I found it hard to get into initially and then it just became predictable. I saw the ending coming a mile away. ( )

This book is the beginning of a series that follows the Honor Bound series. One does not need to have consumed the Honor Bound series, but I have. It's just like a soap opera....just another season. Interesting characters and interesting historical situations...that existed in 1945. In the usual Griffin/Butterworth style, there are multiple repeats, much bureaucratic rumbling and internecine competition. The main character is James D. Cronley Jr.. a Texas pal of Cletus Fraday--Cronley has his measure of 2LT dazzles; part of the plot. Overall, an excellent start to a new series. ( )

Yet another branch out by Griffin. Characters need to become more alive, especially the principle. ( )

I'm tempted to give this the full star rating but I'm holding back since I believe Griffin & Butterworth have begun an even crisper series than all the other before. I've always enjoyed Griffin's works but I found something lacking when Butterworth began to collaborate. But they've nailed it this time. The characters have reached a new level of reality. Gone are the characters of the earlier books that seemed to cruise along; the new characters are grittier. Even the carryover character, Frade, from the earlier series is crisper. ( )
