"the operation was a brilliant success. The dock remained out of action for the rest of the war, and the Tirpitz was denied the waters of the Atlantic. But most important was the effect on French spirits. As their Prime Minister told surviving raiders five years later: 'You were the first to give us hope.'" -- back cover. David Mason tells the story of the combined naval and army raid with gripping intensity. The 150 or so pages are fully illustrated with maps, diagrams and photos that make the complicated actions of the commandos and light naval forces more clear. Though there is certainly room for developing the story more clearly, this long out of print book is a gem and well worth the price if you can find it. ( )
