As I was reading Cloak of the Light, at first I thought “When is the action going to start?”. Then I looked closer at the cover and realized that it wasn’t a stand alone book (silly me!!) but the first book of the Wars of the Realm series!

And what an awesome start is was…with well developed characters, an interesting story that opened up a mysterious unseen world of invaders, and YES even battles …I was hooked (and I got this book for my husband). I am definitely looking forward to the rest of the series! We are also planning to check out more from the author Chuck Black, because, Yes, I was that impressed with my first book of his!!

I really appreciate the author’s note and the readers guide at the end of the book. “The Readers Guide explains the biblical framework from which much of the speculation for the novel is derived. I hope you find it informative and helpful in your own investigation of understanding spiritual warfare.”

As a wife and mom deep in the seemingly mundane, repetitive tasks of parenting and education, I appreciated this book not only as a great read but also as a needed reminder and encouragement of what is important in this life! Thank you, Chuck Black. :)

ABOUT: Cloak of the Light is not just an awesome adventure story, it's also a book that has good lessons in it and things that make you stop and think. Drew has had a hard time the last few years, with lots of changes in his life. Just when everything seems to be getting better he gets in an accident that blinded him. Then his sight miraculously comes back. But with that blessing, comes some strange things. Drew can see things that others around him can't see.....there are Invaders in this world. Then strange things start to happen, and Drew's friend disappears. Who are these invaders and why are they here?
Review: I've read all the previous books by Chuck Black. They're really good, but they are fantasy and in made up kingdoms while this story is in modern day times. I didn't know what to expect with this book, and was expecting not to like it. After reading just the first chapter I was immedietly sucked into the story.
THE GOOD: This story is full of awesome adventure, thoughtful quotes and valuable lessons. Not only did it capture my attention from the first page, it made me want to keep reading, and not only finish the book but continue on to the next book.....warning it doesn't come out till fall. Why do I do this to myself?
It's the concept of the whole story that interested me. Thinking about the Invaders and all that. Which btw, if you don't like alien books, don't disregard this book the minute you hear talk about it, it may be more than what you think.
