Fiction. Romance. Humor (Fiction.) HTML:In this sequel to Wallbanger, fan favorites Caroline Reynolds and Simon Parker negotiate the roller coaster of their new relationship while house-sitting in Sausalito.
Playing house was never so much funâ??or so confusing. With her boss on an extended honeymoon, Caroline's working crazy-long hours to keep the interior design company runningâ??especially since she's also the lead designer for the renovation of a gorgeous old hotel. And with Simon, her hotshot photographer boyfriend, gallivanting all over the world for his job, the couple is heavy-duty into "absence makes the heart grow fonder" mode. No complaints about the great reunion sex, though!

Then a trip back east to his childhood home has Simon questioning his nomadic lifestyle. He decides to be home more. A lot more. And he wants Caroline home more, too. Though their friends' romantic lives provide plenty of welcome distraction, eventually Caroline and Simon have to sort out their relationship. Sure, more togetherness is a good thingâ??but does less traveling and working have to mean the other extreme? Apple pie and picket fences? With this second book in the Cocktail series, USA TODAY bestselling author Alice Clayton delivers another delicious, frothy confection of a book, shaking up her characters, stirring in laugh-out-loud humor, and serving sizzling romance stra

Almost DNF. What happened? The first one was so funny! This one seemed to have no plot or point. Won't be continuing the series. ( )

I really did like Alice Clayton's first novel in the Cocktail series, Wallbanger (The Cocktail Series). However, for me the novel at times just dipped into total immaturity when it came to the main character of Caroline Reynolds.

The second novel in the series, Rusty Nailed (The Cocktail Series), has Caroline and her and her now boyfriend, Simon Parker (AKA Wallbanger) moving onto a different stage of their relationship with one another. Caroline, is now house sitting for her honeymooning boss as well as tapped as the new boss in charge at the design firm she works. Simon, is still traveling the world taking photographs. However, Simon shifts gears and starts staying at home to be with Caroline and put down roots.

In the end this novel was just a below average read for me. It was probably due to once again the mystifying behavior of Caroline, and way too much attention paid to second tier characters.

The character of Caroline was just aggravating to me. Her inability to actually have a conversation with Simon or anyone like her boss about things that bothered her just got annoying. There was even a dumb plot point about Caroline being mad that her boss may have been lying to her about something, but it was a non-starter. I have no idea why it was even brought up in the novel when it didn't matter. Plus Caroline starts acting like a brat to Simon because horror of horrors instead of doing something that was planned he actually did something extremely thoughtful instead.

Frankly it makes no sense that you are getting mad that your boyfriend is now home all of the time instead of being gone for weeks at at time.

Once readers find out more about Simon's backstory I had tons of sympathy for him and none for Caroline. I wanted to tell the character to "RUN, SIMON, RUN".

Also the ongoing saga of the relationship between one of Caroline and Simon's best friends (Sophia and Neil) just got tedious to even deal with after a while. I started to loathe anything going on with these two characters and find myself getting annoyed that pages were even devoted to them. I was glad that Alice Clayton decided to flesh out everyone more in this novel, but I felt as if Sophia and Neil took up way too much time on what should have been about Caroline and Simon.

I would even say that the sex scenes in this novel started to just feel boring and by the numbers after a while. After reading about Simon sliding on home for the umpteenth time I just started to get really sick of reading about it. I wish that there were actually more details included about San Francisco, Caroline's family, and just descriptions of places and food, etc. Besides reading about Caroline being busy, Caroline being annoyed that Simon was around too much, and Sophia and Neil, nothing was really going on with this novel. I really think some type of tension should or could have been inserted to actually make it more of a compelling read.

I know that the third novel, Screwdrivered (The Cocktail Series) should be coming out this September, I hope that Ms. Clayton rebounds with that novel. ( )

Surprised that Clayton didn't write a break up for the main characters in this book. Still an excellent read and so happy about Clive! ( )

Soooo... That was upsetting. As much as I loved 1st book 2nd unfortunately disappointed me. I know that new fresh relationships are passionate and hot... But where is simple human talk? Why you decided to solve all your problems through sex? It's unhealthy? And in this book still works with only one intervention? That's not real (neither other romances I've read but still, this is beyond my understanding). ( )
