In my opinion, “Garfield Travel Adventures” is a good book because it teaches the young reader how to follow along with pictures and text at the same time. This book is written in comic strip format. This book is about Garfield and his family going on three separate vacation adventures. The three different stories are titled “Garfield in the Rough”, “Garfield in Paradise”, and “Garfield Goes Hollywood.” The first vacation Garfield and his family take is camping in the woods. They pack, drive, and set up a tent for them to sleep in for a week. Garfield is not looking forward to it, but in the end he enjoys getting away for a week with his family. I enjoyed the illustrations that the illustrator, Jim Davis, provided which helps to showcase the important events of the story. He uses bright colors in his illustrations, helping to make the story more real and gain attention from the readers. When Garfield is upset or showing emotion, Davis helps bring it to life with only drawings. I thought this would be extremely helpful for children who are learning the English language. Students who are EL Learners will have an easier time understanding the point of the story through pictures rather than words on the page that they might not understand. As the stories progress, the audience is able to understand and relate to how vacationing with family can be fun, even when there are obstacles in the way. The big idea of the story is for young readers to have fun while reading about a beloved cartoon character that goes on vacation with his family. ( )
