From Readers' Favorite Book Award winner Becky Monson comes the first book in a chick lit romance series that will keep you laughing. Julia Dorning is a spinster, or at least on the road to becoming one. She has no social life, hates her career, and lives in her parent's basement with her cat, Charlie. With the arrival of Jared Moody, the new hire at work, Julia's mundane life is suddenly turned upside down. Her instant (and totally ridiculous) crush on the new guy causes Julia to finally make some long-overdue changes, in hopes to find a life that includes more than baking and hanging out with Charlie. But when the biggest and most unexpected change comes, will the new and improved Julia be able to overcome it? Or will she go back to her spinster ways?… (plus d'informations)

This took me way to long to read. Not sure what the hype is about with this book. Was an easy read but surely nothing to keep my attention (obviously since it took me so long to read)
But a woman realizes that it is time to grow up after living 10 years rent free in her parents basement apartment. 10 years at a dead end job results in being laid off. She thinks she has found love but is betrayed by him. But finds out it worked out for the best. ( )

The premise sounded interesting, but I set this book aside in irritation after just two chapters. Reason? The narrator is shallow, whiny, lazy, judgmental, and more than a little annoying to me. Yeah, being older and unmarried isn't much fun, and working in a job you don't like would be draining, but all she seems to do is whine. Nothing is her fault, life is unfair, trying to change anything is just too hard and doomed to failure anyway because Reasons (which are, of course, immutable and also not her fault).

Maybe she gets better later in the book, but I don't have the patience to get to that point, if it even exists. ( )

Had a great time reading this book!

The story is really cute, as are the characters. I enjoyed getting to know Julia and her family and friends. There is a little mystery involved with Julia's job, but it is resolved in this book and there are no cliffhangers.

Looking forward to reading the next book in this series! ( )

As someone who is thirty-two and a "spinster," I am totally in love with this book. It's full of humor, wit, frustration, and other emotions that I can just totally connect with at this point in my life. I know what it's like to live with my parents as an adult and have a job that I hate. (Still working on the "get a better job" part and the "get a guy" part, but aside from that, this book has me written all over it!)

You will find yourself grinning and laughing throughout this book. It's worth checking out! ( )
