A previously unpublished D.E. Stevenson, one of her early works. Not her best, but by no means the worst either. Sweet and fast read. Jean Erskine moves with her family into rural Scotland, where she makes friends with the enchanting Diana MacDonald. Diana has a secret, of which Jean becomes the guardian. But this book is also just a nice development of a friendship in a beautifully described setting. Not all the characters are well realized; the main love interest has no distinguishing features at all, but Diana and Jean are well done, and are the main focus of the story, after all. ( )
