I wish I could give negative stars. So much bad about this story. First off it should have been titled Couldn't Help But... It seemed like every other sentence a character couldn't help but notice this or couldn't help but think that. It was used so much that it leaped out at me and started to grate on me and that was only after about the 5th page.

WARNING the rest of this review is spoileriffic.

Here is the story of a girl who has been in an abusive relationship for 8 years. After he knocks her out and guts her to make her abort a baby he is convinced she is carrying from another man, she decides to run so she saves up $25,000 that she has snuck from the household budget over the last 6 months. She is living with a police detective. Who knew they made so much money that she could squirrel away $25,000 over just 6 months and he only had suspicions that money was maybe disappearing. Oh wait, I think this must be a case of, oh I don't know, no research and lazy writing?

So she runs from him. She's got snow white hair and two different colored eyes. So the first thing she does is get some hair dye and some dark sunglasses. Oh wait no that's what she should have done being she's so effing distinctive. Only an idiot wouldn't change her appearance when she runs from her cop boyfriend. Now you see where I'm going with this right?

She ends up in a small town out west and immediately falls in lust with the local sheriff and his deputy. Within the week they are all in bed together and totally in lurrvvv. She suffered no qualms about hot sex after having been abused and denigrated for eight years, cuz you wouldn't have any issues would you?

She arrives in town, spills her guts to the local law enforcement even though she is sure that they will side with her policeman ex, fesses up that she can't have kids anymore and so of course she thinks they will hate her and not want her anymore. But their love for each other is so strong and durable that nothing can separate lovers who have spent 4 days together. The men tell her not to be silly, they love her anyway.

Then there is some hotness in bed. Not too hot just okay, in case you were planning to read this for the scorching menageness of it all. A few days later she decides that she loves them so much she wants to have a DP scene with them. Even though she's never done it backdoor style before, they have at it with no preparation cuz love makes it all hunky dory.

They are just going to live their lives together even though everyone in town knows they are in a menage but screw them right? It isn't like sheriffs in the US are elected and therefore no one else would have any say in their lives right? Oh wait, crap, sheriffs in the US ARE elected, but since no one in small town America is small minded there shouldn't be any problems that might even need to be addressed in a casual way. Still since there doesn't seem to be any one else living in this town except the sheriff and his family maybe it won't be a problem.

So crazy ass ex finds her and comes to town to get her back and/or kill her. He eats everyday in the diner the sheriff's sister owns and the girl, (who knows all about the evil ex) doesn't even bother to tell her brother that there is a new guy in town and maybe just for kicks the sheriff might want to at least take a gander at him. Cuz so many people are in and out of a town so small it only has one diner and one bed and breakfast to stay in that any new person is barely worth mentioning.

So bad ex captures both girls and takes them away to a mountain cabin. Beatings and craziness ensue. The sheriff and his deputy arrive but the heroine is already struggling with the ex and accidently shoots him. It's all good and we didn't really even need the sheriff. So off she goes unconscious to the hospital where a week later she is released. But wait, before she goes, the doc tells her that she is preggers. Guess that C section by crazy man didn't do that much damage after all. Seems kind of early after only 2-1/2 weeks but hey it's a hospital, there are tests. So they give her a sonogram to see how far along she is. Umm... she rolled into town 2-1/2 weeks ago. So I'm guessing 2 weeks but hey, I could be off a day or so. So let's go on with the sonogram cuz they always work after 2 weeks. It's twins!

Then epilogue! It's 3 months later. She's getting dressed for her wedding but she's not really feeling the beauty cuz she's 3-1/2 months pregnant and is as HUGE as a WHALE! I mean, you would be right?

Final thoughts - If I am going to read a train wreck, and I am cuz I paid good money for this, then at least let there be some smoking hot menage smexing but sadly, there ain't... ( )

I really liked this book!! Lots of great story going on! Cane is a great character very engaging and she has such strength to overcome her past.

And her big payday is two super how guys in uniform!! I am so there for that!!

I loved all the supporting characters as well and really hope they all get their own books! This has the makings of a great series!

Wonderful story telling that was well paced. And the steam was plentiful!!

Cover Art - Interesting but it did not have me dumbstruck drooling at the computer screen. ( )
