I got a copy of axis mundi to try through netgalley.com. I love poetry in general but I'm also very picky about which poets i will read and what they need to do to reach that level. In this book the author uses such evocative imagery that I was hooked. Everything came to life. I love a poem I can "see" as I'm reading it. The way I could see the turtles eyes in "box turtle". The child surging up from a car seat in "first word". Holmburg makes a dislocated thumb enchanting if that's even possible, the words come to life. They make you feel. I think everyone should read words that do this in a way as simple and beautiful as these do. ( )
