Do you believe in love at first sight? Paul Auster doesn't. Paul doesn't believe in much at all. He's thirty, slightly overweight, and his best features are his acerbic wit and the color commentary he provides as life passes him by. His closest friends are a two-legged dog named Wheels and a quasibipolar drag queen named Helena Handbasket. He works a dead-end job in a soul-sucking cubicle, and if his grandmother's homophobic parrot insults him one more time, Paul is going to wring its stupid neck. Enter Vince Taylor. Vince is everything Paul isn't: sexy, confident, and dumber than the proverbial box of rocks. And for some reason, Vince pursues Paul relentlessly. Vince must be messing with him, because there is no way Vince could want someone like Paul. But when Paul hits Vince with his carâin a completely unintentional if-he-died-it'd-only-be-manslaughter kind of wayâhe's forced to see Vince in a whole new light. The only thing stopping Paul from believing in Vince is himselfâand that is one obstacle Paul can't quite seem to overcome. But when tragedy strikes Vince's family, Paul must put aside any notions he has about himself and stand next to the man who thinks he's perfect the way he is.… (plus d'informations)

4.5 So Not Surprised Stars!!

Having read 2 of Klune’s most likely popular series BOatK (shout out to my top book hubby, Otter!!!) and Tales from Verania (Tiggy 5eva!!), this comes as no surprise that I truly enjoyed myself. As with those books, this brings plenty of laughs that are absolutely based on inane ridiculousness and some gut wrenching feels to kick you in the literal or proverbial balls.

So, if you like seemingly underdog stories, heavy with familial feels, and deep romantic story arcs, all peppered with so much snark and fun, then this fan favorite is a no brainer and should not disappoint!

I love T.J. Klune's writing style and how his books make you laugh out loud! This is another great one that did that. I was also surprised that some characters from his other books were in this one. ( )

nice gay romance but relies on stereotypes a bit too much. but good to see a fat main character worrying about being unattractive - that's definitely something i see in myself.

however, the main character wasn't differentiated enough from the one in [b: Bear Otter and the Kid|12156759|Bear, Otter, and the Kid (Bear, Otter, and the Kid, #1)|T.J. Klune|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1347434774s/12156759.jpg|17127576]. he also has random flights of fancy and extrapolates way too far. i like tj klune's writing overall but this was too similar to before! I am a sucker for a story with a snarky, jaded queen in it. Paul was that in spades. I found both Paul and Vince to be good men damaged by society and just trying to fit in. Paul's family was adorable. The story had a nice flow and along with some outstanding characters was very rewarding read. ( )

I couldn't finish reading this one. And it's weird - I think it might be fine if I'd seen it as a movie, maybe. I laughed out loud several times, but alas, some of the humor reads to me as abusive or ignorant, and so at 43% in, I just can't read any more. ( )

If you have ever been told that you're not skinny enough, smart enough, straight enough, beautiful enough, strong enough, masculine enough, or any other "enough" that made you feel less than you actually are, then, man, do I have something to tell you: this one is for you because you are perfect just the way you are.
