Hidden Gates is a great intro to this series. It kept me intrigued, and had me wanting to learn more about the world.

PJ is a Seer, and hasn’t had her first vision yet. She’s pretty much the only one that hasn’t had one. She wants boys to notice her, and to get one vision, but she has no idea how much those two things will turn her world upside down. PJ suddenly has guys wanting to be with her, and doesn’t know what to do about it. I think she’s a pretty realistic teen character. She’s very naive in some aspects, but she acts how I figure some teenage girls do when they are forbidden to date a guy. Bryn is also a great guardian. I didn’t like how possessive he was at times, but I can understand why he was. Khol creeps me out, even when we find out who/what he is. He just has the creepiness factor.

The story starts off kind of slow, but quickly builds as PJ’s visions start. There are a few tense moments, and definitely some steamy ones. Not only do we have Seers, Speakers, and Guardians, but there are also Dragons!!!! Oh and creepy alien type creatures. The only downfall is that I felt the story was focused too much on PJ’s relationships with the guys that are attracted to her. But it still worked. You get to see how she feels when confronted by different people, and how she has to figure out if what she has with her forbidden boyfriend is more than puppy love. You also realize how much she is against the mating rules of her people. I don’t blame her at all, you should get to be with who you want regardless of their rank in society.

I’m ready to read the next books in the series. I have to know what happens next after the way Hidden Gates left off. ( )

Bryn and P.J. have been friends forever and are starting to realize they have feelings for each other. Too bad, it’s forbidden for a seer and a guardian to have a sexual relationship together. When the two get caught kissing by P.J.’s dad, the two are separated. With Bryn gone, P.J. becomes a magnet for guys. Two in particular start vying for her affections, Jeremy, a Guardian her parents selected as a “proper” relationship, and a mysterious other guy named Khol, who is awakened by her magic, but P.J.’s heart still belongs with Bryn. When P.J. finally has her first nasty vision no one believes her. But, if her vision comes true some beings from another world will be P.J.’s world’s destruction. Will she be able to save the world and get to be with her true love?

Way too much sex for my tastes, but the story was decent. It could’ve used a little more plot-centric elements and not so heavy on the characters, though. The plot was fairly engaging and has a lot of potential, but the characters seemed a little melodramatic and sex-crazed, even for 18-year-olds. People, however, who are interested in steamy magic adventures will probably enjoy reading this book. ( )

An interesting story about a super natural world in which certain select people are selected to protect it. I enjoyed the story line and characters and would definitely read the next installment. ( )

This book will be on my DNF list. I tried. Really tried to get over it... but I can't. It really annoyed me on how the story develops. Love story sucks. As of 45%, it's really pure love story. And the main problem is mentioned but they didn't really do anything yet. I hate how the girl is attracted to every guys that says they like him beyond everytghing else. And both guys claiming they are suited for her. Uh, hello? Bryn just got out of the picture, the first guy who she slept with, she love him but now doubting it and then cheating with him because of kissing two different guys.

Sure, it might not be her fault, not really, but how the conversation is going, I am so annoyed I can't continue this. Or I might harm someone. I know too that this is not the first time I read an annoying book but I got it over it... But today, I'm really just not in the mood and maybe I got enough of those kinds of books for today.

Maybe this book will be to your liking. Please do not decide whether you'll read the book just because of this review. That is just my opinion but yes, I am sorry for not finishing this book. :(

I do think I could rate it since I am in the middle of the book when I stopped, so yeah, 1.5 stars. In between but rounded down. ( )

It was an interesting premise when i read the description of the story. I found that certain areas could have been fleshed out more, while other areas were perfect. It was an easy read, easy to become engrossed in the events and the characters. It was a bit Romeo and Juliet with the forbidden dalliance. However, sometimes i found the main character almost whiny or immature, especially since her age is supposed to be older than 13. Still an enjoyable read and will most likely seek out the next book, it is just not at the very top of the list. ( )
