I was HUGELY DISAPPOINTED when I finished reading it to find that the next book wasn't out yet. :) Hugely disappointed in a good way! The Heroine was strong and intelligent which is my favorite combination and the Hero saw beyond pomp and circumstance, which is my favorite kind of Hero. So I was well pleased. Plus Dragons... Need I say more? Anytime you can mix Dragons and Romance, it is a winner, but the writing was also highly enjoyable. Cette critique a été rédigée pour LibraryThing Member Giveaways. This book was a great combination of action, romance, sic-fi/fantasy and just great story telling! Her characters were well developed, the story well thought out and intricately woven and the story told from multiple points of view enhanced it even further. I can't wait to see more from this author. Carina is a half-blood royal which equates to she's treated like a servant. Her world is changed for the better when King Marek visits her castle with the intentions of courting and marrying her half-sister Marissa to bind the lines and hopefully marry the Caller of Light. However he falls for Carina instead and chooses her as a mistress leaving Marissa behind and upset to the point of jealously and rage. This story follows Carina's journey of self-discovery and uncovering her mother's past while beginning the adventure of a life-time. I can't get enough of this female lead that kicks some major ass. I loved these characters especially the head-strong Carina and the dragon-like creatures called Critons. Cette critique a été rédigée pour LibraryThing Member Giveaways. Amazon.com Description:“Carina McKay is an outsider. With one parent of royal blood, she's not nobility, yet not a servant either. The only comfort in her mundane existence is her love of Critons, the large fire-breathing creatures that protect the border of her homeland. But her destiny changes forever the day she catches the eye of King Marek Duncan. Marek's heart is closed to love. After an arranged marriage withers to a bitter end, he dedicates his energy to protecting his kingdom. Yet he's searching for something more--the Caller of Light, the one who summons Critons. Carina's beauty and willfulness intrigue Marek, and he's determined to have her. When his enemies try to come between them, he discovers just how much he will endure to protect her. Together, they can unlock a love that binds their souls, but only if they find the strength to follow their hearts.” This is a sweet romantic fantasy novel with a splash of adventure. This book leaves open for a sequel but has an ending (no dramatic cliffhanger.) Characters: The book is written in third person following both Carina and Marek. Carina is an emotionally abused girl by her father and sister, but that doesn’t stop her from finding herself. Although she can be submissive to them, she has strength and courage in her personality. Her one respite is to care for the critons (fantasy creature). King Marek becomes smitten with her and the story takes off from there. By taking Carina and Marek’s point of views, the reader is able to understand the motives for both parties and their decisions better. As with most romance novels, misunderstanding fuels the beginning of their fragile relationship. The “bad” characters are mostly one-dimensional but they have some complexities to them. The reader doesn’t get too much background on them to understand their motives, but they work in the story. Plot: The plot, at least romantically, is about average in that many books carry the same idea within their own story – misunderstandings, finding out true love, etc. The adventure side of the plot was well written and I finished reading the book in 2 days. It kept my interest and kept the characters moving forward. Overall, I liked this book. It had a likeable heroine and hero within a fantasy world. If you like fantasy romances with a splash of adventure, you would like this book. Caller of Light by TJ Shaw is a wonderful book. I truly enjoyed reading about Carina McKay & her dashing King Marek Duncan. Carina is treated horribly by her father & half sister. So without receiving the love she needs from her family she spends her time & showers her love on the Critons, her favorite is little Mira. When King Duncan comes to court her sister, he meets Carina and develops a fondness for her. Before he leaves he has choose Carina over her sister. Of course this terribly angers her sister, she is the favored sister and always gets what she wishes. Carina & Marek bond on their travels back to Mareks land. There is a sweet connection between these two right away. In their travels they encounter a battle and many other issues they have to over come together. Carina & Marek make a powerful couple that keeps you cheering for them along the way. I would recommend this book to the fantasy romance readers out there. I know your going to enjoy it. I myself can not wait to see what TJ Shaw might have in store for us next. I would love to read more by her!

I really can't say enough good for this book....I totally loved it!! I highly recommend this book to all romance / fantasy lovers! I give "Caller of Light" a 5 star rating. “Caller of Light” by TJ Shaw is a delightful debut fantasy novel that introduces an excellent new voice of the genre. A beautifully crafted tale that is centered on a world containing fascinating creatures called Critons which exist in a society that is divided into multiple kingdoms vying for superiority.

WOW!! I am in love with this intensely dynamic fast-paced novel! It was like a fantasy driven Cinderella romance with surprising twists the whole way through. I especially liked that even if some of the twists made Marek behave in a way I didn't like this novel’s fast-pace made it so you couldn't dwell on his dumb behavior that long as there was more action to get into.
Carina made this novel with her sweet ways and strong defiant courage. Yet, her being with Marek brought me back for more."
