( ) This is awesome right to the very end. Bonus, this novel is an excellent example of when a writer does their research - and lays it into the story organically and believably. This trilogy is great - in police representation, in how people can adjust (or fail to), in how it feels to be a victim, in family both good and bad, and of course in an ongoing love story. If you haven't read these, go get 'em. It's interesting to see the ways in which Mac and Tony (and their relationship) have developed over the course of this series. There has been a number of changes and the way they've grown separately and together is definitely endearing. Following along as they work through the challenges of coming together as a family and raising two children on top of the stresses of their respective jobs - well, it's refreshing to me in its own way. I did feel like the case/mystery in this one dragged a bit slowly at the beginning and then rushed to a finish - especially more so than in the previous two books. But I still enjoyed it overall and it did keep me guessing through much of the book as well. How can I review a book that just about leaves me speechless? But speechless in a very good way. I don't want to give away anything either, so that makes it even more difficult. It will just have to suffice to say that it was fantastic to revisit Mac and Tony. To see how their lives are settling into a family unit, and how Ben and Anna are adjusting to it all. And I'm leaving it at that! Thanks Kaje!
