Conrad Browning at one time was a spoiled, self-centered young man who cared little for his biological father, Frank Morgan. Fast forward to now and Conrad rarely is called by any name other than Kid Morgan, an alias he assumed with his new life after the death of his wife, Rebel. Readers might enjoy reading each book in the Loner Series from the beginning as each book contains new insights into this character and several unique adventures.
In Hard Luck Money, the Kid is spending time in a hotel room in the company of a woman he met in a previous book by the name of Lace McCall. Together they are recuperating from chasing a gang of outlaws who burned down a town in the novel Brutal Vengeance. Now Lace is once again going back to her life as a bounty hunter and the Kid is asked to join the Texas Rangers.
The Rangers want the Kid to pose as an outlaw by the name of Waco Keene. They want him to go to prison and then hopefully catch the eye of whatever gang is breaking prisoners out and using them to commit crimes all over Texas. At first, Conrad has no desire to once again go behind bars even if it is for a good reason due to the horrible experiences he suffered in another prison when he was mistaken for an outlaw in the novel Seven Days to Die. The Kid assumes the identity of Waco and then is taken in by the gang. Once again he has to rely on his wits to keep him alive because he has no other weapon available.
Throughout the book there is danger, intrigue and a character from the Last Gunfighter series shows up in the story. The Last Gunfighter is the series where Conrad’s biological father, Frank Morgan, is the central character with lots of suspense and western action for readers!
