This book deals with Elise and Merrick, who were introduced as minor characters in a few past stories. Elsie was kidnapped by the AllFather and Merrick rescued her from the stasis chamber she had hidden away in. What they didn’t know was, when he released her, it caused a stasis bonding between them that could end up be deadly for both of them. So they need to find a certain plant on the Kindred home world to deactivate the bonding. What makes the whole story unique, is that Merrick is a hybrid Kindred, a cross between a Blood and Beast Kindred. Because of their hybrid nature, they can never bond with a female, so Merrick will do anything not to give up a bond he thought he’d never share with a female. But, he also doesn’t want to jeopardize Elise’s life. Oh, the quandary.

This book deals with sexual abuse between child and trusted adult, so some people may not want to read this story, but what happened to Elsie defines her in her adult life, so it’s a necessary evil you have to read. And that’s what brings Merrick and Elsie together, their deep, mental scars.

This book is just as rich in detail, and characterization as the other books. We do some more planet hopping, and get a better look at the new threat to the Universe, The Hoard and their leader, Draven. He is a true bad boy. I have noticed that Evangeline has backed off somewhat from all the sex scenes. Maybe because she’s already shown the different bonding sex for the different Kindred warriors.

Book 6 was a satisfying read, and I look forward to the next one in the series. I give it 4 feathers. ( )

Thought about giving it a 1, but I reserve that for really bad books. If you liked the other books, then you will like this one.


Meaning I could predict what would happen because it happened in every other book.

Elise suffered a trauma that we, the reader, are led to believe was sexual in nature. She has pushed the memory into the farthest recesses of her mind to cope. Merrick is a half-breed, part beast kindred and part tranq kindred. He is huge, fierce, and has a wicked facial scar that adds to his intimidation factor. Both of them have a hard time belonging, they go through the motions of life but are not living it. Our H/H are not getting a long at the start of the book despite their obvious connection. They have to put this aside when Elise becomes ill from her extended stay in stasis. Sort of like freezer burn for the soul. They share a bond but it is not stable, which makes it dangerous. To sever the bond they must retrieve a sacred plant from Rageron, the beast kindred planet. The mission is dangerous. Though Elise would prefer distance from Merrick, she must have him intimately near to survive the stasis sickness. On their journey they explore the depth of their feelings for one another and try to heal the hurts of the past.

I have to applaud Evangeline on her portrayal of a sexual assault survivor. The flashbacks Elise suffered were uncomfortable and intense. This is amazing considering she never gets very graphic with the imagery of the attacks. Merrick's patience with Elise over her past, his willingness to forgo his needs to meet hers proves the depths of his love for her. I was confused for a split second over how Elise could forget she had a fiancee, but stasis sickness and her defense mechanisms she uses for unpleasant memories makes it plausible. ( )

The long awaited Pursued has finally been published and the wait was totally worth it!

Merrick the scarred warrior and best friend of Sylvan found a young woman named Elise who had been tortured by the scourge frozen in a stasis chamber. He saved her life by bringing her back to the mother ship and since then the two have become very close, but things go sour when they find out Elise has a fiancé. Merrick is determined to forget her, but that soon becomes impossible when they find out that they somehow formed a very dangerous soul bond that requires Elise to be at his side constantly. Now in order to save them both they must brave the dangerous jungle of Rageron and find the pain vine. Will they find the plant before it’s too late or will they finally be able to deal with the past to discover a love worth fighting for?

This story was so full of emotion that you better be ready for a rollercoaster ride that will have you wishing for a Merrick of your own. Both of these characters have had pasts that haunt them to this day. There was a lot of character growth in this story and I couldn’t help but feel for these characters they went through a lot and still persevered and became better people for it.

Elise is a passionate young woman who never had the chance to really let herself go. She is also fiercely protective of those unable to protect themselves such as children and animals. Elsie is also unfailing kind and yet a bit stubborn. She is a great influence on Merrick and brings out the best in him.

Merrick is the tough as nails warrior who is used to being alone. He is noble and kind in his own way I couldn’t help falling in love with him. The way he protects his loved ones and always tries to do the right thing is amazing and I cannot believe that he actually believes that the goddess wouldn’t care about him. He is good for Elise and truly cares for her I loved this pairing more than any other in the series simply because they are so amazing together.
