This book is a sold as a family story, as told through the dog Bruce, but is really a mix of dog and family member with added neighbours. It jumps around a bit, using dream like visions to explain some background but just ends up with a very confused reader wondering who is telling the story and when things are happening. For readers like me who love a good animal story I wouldn’t bother with this book, there isn’t enough time to find out anything about the actual dog or how he grows up!
It was one of those books you keep reading as you expect it to get better - but it didn’t. It wasn’t an awful read, it just plodded along - ok for a freebie, but wouldn’t rush to recommend or read again. ( )
