Author: Taylor Anderson   4 of 5 stars   Synopsis:   The new British Empire is dealt a grievous blow, the Alliance is beginning to break into factions due to its size, the Grik are quickly becoming "civilized" while the rogue Japanese are growing in influence, the Dom Empire is barely mentioned and finally, we are introduced to the "new" Empire who appear to want to be part of the Alliance.     My Thoughts:   While I enjoyed this (obviously, as I gave it 4 stars), the growth of the scope of the war and the continued introduction of yet more "empires", with no resolutions to any of the already introduced problems, is beginning to wear on me.   I am still wrapping my head around the New British Empire and the Dom Empire and now I'm supposed to just accept another one? Tech is growing quickly and the Griks are changing so fast that I feel like they are also a completely new enemy.   Speaking of the Grik. They are changing as a species under the secret direction of the Japanese. It doesn't work for me. A whole species, while it can adapt to new circumstances and new equations to their way of life, simply cannot continue as a cohesive whole while changing how Anderson is changing them. It just smacks of Deus Ex Machina for badguyness.   The Alliance. So far everything has worked well because strong, charismatic leaders have put the idea of wiping out the Grik ahead of politics and self interest. Sadly, that is changing.   And that leads me to my final point. This series is starting to scare me. Book 8 is already out and on my TBR and I see absolutely no way that it will be the final book. Shades of Robert Jordan are beginning to rise before me and I am wondering if this Destroyermen series will be the series that never ends.   I've bought the first 2 books but I don't know if I can in good faith buy any more until I know that some resolution is in the works.     Crossposted at Bookstooge.booklikes.wordpress.blogspot.com " ( )

The battles continue in book 7 of 9. By now, the reader is accustomed to the technology inject and the static fighting between multiple entities as the war plods on for multiple volumes. There are still multiple story lines and one of them keeps popping up at the end of each book: "Gee, where did that come from?" Not much got resolved, the enemies are still the same and the USS Walker crew dwindles. I wonder what will happen next? ( )

Iron Gray Sea, the seventh book in Taylor Andersonƒ??s DESTROYERMEN series, begins with the sinking of a battleship and then a wedding. The remaining Destroyermen are all together to witness the marriage of Captain Matthew Reddy to Lt. Sandra Tucker, but soon they must disperse again because they and their allies are still fighting all over the world on several fronts, and they are spread thin.

Their own technology is advancing rapidly but, with the help of the Japanese, so is the Griksƒ??. Not only are the bad guys making better weapons and using better military strategy than they did before, but they are also using genetic engineering to create better soldiers. The allies must stay ahead of the Grik and get control of the sea and the air and, maybe eventually, the land.

This is the 7th novel in the Destroyermen series. For a sequel (actually a continuation of the story) this is as good as the previous novels.

This continues the saga of Captain Reddy and his intrepid destroyer 'Walker' transportered by a storm to a new Earth that is similar, but with huge differences in species and geography. I'm pleased to have learned that book 8 is now available.

The scope of this series is reminiscent of Asimov's Foundation series, in which a whole new universe and a variety of societies are created. The scenes are vivid, the characters varied and real, the issues modern in scope and the story line one of the best I've ever read.

The only thing that concerned me were the lack of drawings or pictures of the various species. It would really help as the descriptions, though detailed, left much to be desired. While the Lemurians are fairly easy to depict, the Grik and various other creatures could use the art work.

I actually went out and bought this novel after reading the previous two in the series. I have not read the first 3. I would recommend this novel to anyone who enjoys action and adventure, war and all the small details that brings Taylor's world to life.

Ok, this series is getting complicated. The lemorians have invaded India to take on the Grik. The Dom manages to badly hurt the Empire and the Walker is badly maimed while fighting a Japanese Destroyer. A fun series but it's getting to be very busy. Makes more sense in the second reading. ( )
