Every once and awhile I am in the mood for a light, frothy read and Tall Poppies by Louise Bagshawe fit the bill nicely this week. Louise Bagshawe seems to specialize in revenge stories and here she delivers in spades a story about two girls, one a dark beauty from a poor background, the other, a gorgeous blonde and a member of the British aristocracy. These two start out with a strong dislike for each other, but over the course of the book they realize that they are fighting against the same enemy and work better together. Set in the early eighties, the story revolves around business and women getting ahead. There’s plenty of romance, lots of sex, and it’s stuffed with reminders, both good and bad, of the early eighties. Living the rich, fashionable lifestyle always seems to play an important role in this type of book, and the plot has the characters jet setting between New York, London and the Swiss Alps. I found Tall Poppies to be a fun read about beautiful people living a fantasy life as these two competitors come together to score points on a over-the-top scoundrel. This story was pure escapism and exactly what I was looking for. aucune critique | ajouter une critique
Bestselling author of PASSION and SPARKLES, LOUISE BAGSHAWE, is 'Britain's younger, smarter answer to Jackie Collins' (Mirror). With her public school education, trust fund and castle for a family home, Elizabeth Savage has seemingly led a privileged life. But the one thing she really wants, the chance to prove herself in the world of work, is the one thing she can't get. New Yorker Nina Roth, on the other hand, was born the wrong side of the tracks, and it's sheer grit and determination that have made her the successful career woman she is. Set on making a better life for herself, she's done what needed to be done. But has she gone one step too far? Two women from two different worlds, but these tall poppies have much more in common than they think. And, as both will find, the trouble with being a tall poppy is people will try and cut you down to size... Aucune description trouvée dans une bibliothèque |

They like each other but by misunderstanding each other they are not couples. Typical like a harlequin. I do think this is much better than those. There is at least a bit of substance in the book. ( )
