A brilliant romantic comedy for fans of Bridget Jones's Diary. A cat. A flat. And a couple who think it's over. From their first meeting at the student union over a decade ago, Jim and Alison successfully navigated their way through first dates, meeting parents, moving in together and more . . . Then they split up and divided their worldly goods (including a sofa, a cat and their flat) into his 'n' hers. Now, three years on and with new lives and new loves, they couldn't be happier. Until a chance encounter throws them back together, and causes them to embark on a journey through their past to ask themselves the big question: where did it all go wrong, and is it too late to put it all right?… (plus d'informations)

An easy read but entertaining. Mike Gayle tells things from both sides and shows how a relationship builds and falls over time from the two perspectives. The characters are well formed and you do kind of root for them, but it is quite conventional and predictable fare, but well done. Another good holiday read! (and my last one on the reading challenge!) ( )

nice chick lit - although the blurb says "male confessional novel" which would put it in the ranks of Nick Hornby. Which frankly, I think is overstated. It's after all a typical boy meets girl story, looking back on how they first met and how their relationship develops the story is told, alternately from his and her point of view. Basically, they meet, there are complications, they end up together, they marry, then divorce.
What makes this book memorable is not the story, which I have to admit is not that original. While reading I realized that the story is not only set in Birmingham, but that the characters go to uni there, live in Selly Oak and at one point even the street she lives in is mentioned. Which is, incidentally, the very same street I stayed at when I visited. no kidding.

Came across his books at the library especially “My Legendary Girlfriend”-love his characters and the all too human messes they get themselves in ( )
