Sheriff Sharyn Howard has moved into her father’s shoes as the new sheriff of Diamond Springs. She is still proving herself to the deputies under her, and to those she ran against in the election.

Called to the murder scene, the queen of last nights prom was found lying next to her car, Sharyn remembers another murder, the murder of the prom queen 10 years ago. The murderer her father had sent to death row now sits in prison waiting for execution. But there are too many similarities in the cases for Sharon not to reopen the first investigation. But she will have to tread lightly …

I thought the sheriff hit too many obstacles (people) to reopening the original murder investigation. These people should not have been the deciding factor (especially her mother). And, why would it be assumed that the Sharyn’s father’s reputation would be put in doubt? I didn’t buy the excuse “but it is a small town slightly divorced from big city concerns”, it weakened the plot.
