Mystery. Romance. Young Adult Fiction. Young Adult Literature. When Wendy Geller's body is found in Central Park after the night of a rager, newspaper headlines scream,"Death in the Park: Party Girl Found Strangled." But shy Rain, once Wendy's best friend, knows there was more to Wendy than just "party girl." As she struggles to separate the friend she knew from the tangle of gossip and headlines, Rain becomes determined to discover the truth about the murder. *This is a Net Galley review book. I received no compensation for the review. The opinions expressed are my own.*

I chose to review this book because it reminded me of a chilling true story of a young woman's body being found in Central Park. The true story was haunting. Mariah Fredericks has written a fictional story that is equally haunting. I could not put this book down. The Girl in the Park will haunt you. It is chilling in the way that "friends" will turn on each other in a heartbeat and it is equally chilling in the silence that can hide bullying. I do not want to give away the ending to this book so I am not going to delve too much into what happens. It is very disturbing and I would call it a must read. Actually I would call it, "a must read with teens I care about and discuss it with them book." It is a book not easily read and forgotten. Add it today to your TBR list.

I really liked this book. So often, mysteries for teens contain some supernatural element or something that just couldn't happen in real life. Not so with this one. It was uncomfortably honest at times, mostly because we can all relate to having a friend in high school (or even middle school) like the victim in the story. I loved the fact that the protagonist wasn't the perfect, beautiful-but-underappreciated type, too. Due to a cleft palette, she had serious insecurities that, again, we can all relate to on some level. Overall, this was a solid mystery. ( )

Mixed feelings here. Teen girls will like it. It has parties, popular girls, unpopular girls, teacher puppy love, dating, social media, new girl trying to fit in, new girl stealing other girls boyfriends. In other words...typical teen scene. Teens also love a mystery so add all that up and you have a book that teens will enjoy. I, as usual, have to put some value on the quality of the writing, the believability, the plot and character development, so with that, there is no way this can be a 4 or 5 star book. [b:Thirteen Reasons Why|1217100|Thirteen Reasons Why|Jay Asher|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1333822506s/1217100.jpg|2588213] by Jay Asher was a much more intelligently crafted crime book. ( )

Alcott High School, $35,000.00 a year tuition. How can anything go so horribly wrong. Wendy Geller, wild party, fun girl; leaves a party completely trashed one night. The next day a jogger comes across her bruised and abused body in Central Oart, NYC. Who would murder Wendy and why? Although she was kind to most people she encountered, there were those who did not care for her at all.
This is a good mystery, and I don't believe the reader will figure out who the murderer is until near the end. When you do, then you will remember the foreshadowing in the early pages of the book. ( )
