This novel is classified as horror and is not for readers with weak stomachs as it is filled with a lot of killing. I do want to point out however that this is a wonderful book filled with romance, animals, and some seriously vindictive behavior. It is well worth the read if you like fantasy romance and are not turned off by grossness.

So I'm mixed about this book, very mixed. I liked the story, I did not like the characters. I liked the plot, I did not like the lack of background that was needed to tie the story together. I liked the idea of werewolves being vigilantes, I did not like the ambivalent character and her incredibly ambivalent morals. So allow me to explain this a bit more.

I like preternatural stories, pretty sure I went over that in my last review, however I'm not overtly keen on the myths being completely debunked and ignored. For example this tale spoke of werewolves but said vampires didn't exist, but in the end there was a character that was very vampire-ish to me. There was some brief mention of history but nothing conclusive that tied everything together. How does one be a vampire-ish character AND a werewolf? Where did the werewolves begin? Why did you put in the name Corvinus (hello Underworld fans!) and not elaborate on it? There was too may inconsistencies in the storytelling to make it believable.

The characters as well were lacking. In what I'm not completely sure, but I could not relate or empathize with any of them. The main character was distant, lacking emotion and one dimensional. The others were mere decoration. The only character that was remotely fleshed out (pun intended) was the bad girl, and even she was lacking detail and information to make one hate or feel sorry for her. By removing the 'hero' so early it left the story and direction hanging and uncertain. He was the one with history and information to complete the story but was taken out too soon. I liked the idea of him being killed and did feel it fuelled the plot, but it was just too soon for him to die (sorry, spoiler there!).

There is a lot of potential in this tale but I think it needs another round at the drawing board and a review of what is needed and what could be removed. There were parts of the story that were missing, and others that were unnecessary. Some of the plot twists near the end were unexplained and just too far out of left field to make one actually relish the idea. Last minute details on the disappearance and death of characters was trite and should have either been told earlier or left out altogether. And one part I just couldn't agree with was the pettiness of the bad girl and her 'revenge' so to speak on the good girl. It was a little juvenile for me and considering the character it didn't make sense.

Yet I liked it. I finished it relatively quickly which is usually a good sign since it means I wanted to know what happened. I was just left unsatisfied with the conclusion. ( )

So, I loved this book! I received it way back in November 2011 as part of LibraryThing Early Reviewers, but the book cover and title really threw me off and didn't appeal to me. Like another reviewer said, "Don't judge a book by its cover!" I started reading the book yesterday and I couldn't put it down! Just finished it a few minutes ago and I loved the plot, the flow, the characters ... it was a little gross at some points and there was one part where a serial killer was thinking back to the time (in detail) when he killed a cat that just birth and then its kittens that, I have to say, really made my stomach turn and was really not necessary to the overall need to dislike the character (he had just killed some people, so it obvious we shouldn't like him!). But I digress, the ending was also pretty awesome; I love the last line! I think the author has left room for a sequel and, if so, I would definitely love to read it! ( )

I really enjoyed this book. It wasn't one that I picked up and finished in one setting, but it still didn't take me very long at all. It's not the best book I've read, but by far not the worst. The storyline and characters were intersting. I thought the middle of the book was kind of blah, but the beginning and the end were quite likeable. At times, I felt the story was a bit predictable, but that could just be me. I have an annoying habit of figuring out plotlines quickly. The end of the epilogue was actually my favorite part and made it worth reading all the way to the end. ( )
