I liked the overall premise of the book, but the modern day expressions really ruined it for me. This was written to be in a pre-industial world and as such, my brain totally rejected ideas such as taking someone out on a date to a restaurant (and talk of who was going to pay), terming women as 'hot', etc.

Also used was - "This stuff is kind of freaking me out a bit." and "Told me it was a great ‘pre-owned horse." Really?!

I may be nitpicking, but can't get beyond that stuff. Maybe it was intentional by the author, but I guess I am too much of a traditionalist to get over it. I kept trying to justify it in my mind while reading and couldn't, so was constantly distracted from the story.

I may try the second book, but for now am just moving on to something else. ( )

Long story short, this is a simplified copy of the Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan. It's pretty well-written, but there were too many parallels for me; one WoT series is enough for my lifetime. ( )

This review is on the Kindle edition of Legon Awakening: Book One in the Legon Series by Nicholas Taylor

At times I wish I could give separate reviews on grammar and story but as I can't my over all review is mixed.

The story captivated me. It was a "read until your done" book for me. The ending left me wanting more so I read the second book immediately after.

The grammatical state of the book was a mess. It distracted from the story as I was constantly trying to figure out what the author meant. I would hope that the author corrected all of the grammatical errors by for hard print. ( )

This book was lent to me by a friend and I have very mixed feelings about it. Had I been reading from a physical copy that I'd purchased I'd have been sending a very annoyed letter to the publisher right now. However I've no idea if all the grammer, punctuation, and spelling mistakes in the ebook version were also in the printed version. The strength of the characters and story telling are the only reasons I continued to read when the editing mistakes became a constant distraction. Somewhere at the publishing company this book fell through a really big crack. I won't be purchasing my own copy and I'd think twice before I attempt further books in this series. ( )

This book starts out well, almost crashes and burns at the end. The whole way the story is built in the last half of the novel is so half assed and generic that it took a lot away from this book. The Amazon version I had also had an unacceptable amount of typos which included, no capitalization of words following periods, blatant misspelling of epilogue and other words. There were so prevalent it took me out of the book several times. This book was free though so you can't go wrong with the price. I was interested enough to read the second one, but the price is 4.99, while I would only pay a buck for a book of this caliber. ( )
