Leo is a lightning bug is a young bug that cannot light his lightning bug light. He tries and tries but it does not seem to work. Some of the other lightning bugs laugh at him trying and trying. Eventually Leo's lightning light comes on! Everyone was astonished. This is a good book to teach students about persevering. ( )

Leo the Lightning Bug struggles with lighting up his tail and he uses ambition until he accomplishes his goal. Children would like the vivid illustrations and could relate to this story on how you have to use ambition to accomplish goals. Teachers could use this to teach a lesson on ambition and have the students make career hats of their future goals. ( )

This adorable book about Leo the Lightning Bug is a great way to start off teaching about believing in yourself and how it is important to treat people kindly. Leo was the smallest lighting bug around and he still hadn't learned to work his light. After encouraging words from his mother, Leo decides to practice to make his light work. While practicing he didn't see the results he really wanted, and though he tried and strained to get his light to work it did not light up. In this process, other kids he knew were watching and laughing at him. When Leo noticed he ran away and was very upset because he did not like being laugh at. However he remembered his mothers words to practice and to never give up, so he got up and tried again and again. Eventually his right did work and it was as bright as anyones. Even more, he got to talk with the kids who had been laughing at him and using his words he settled his feelings of embarrassment and found some new friends to play with. Leo had finally truly believed in himself and it had paid off. ( )

Awesome book to teach about bullying, believing in yourself and expression. The kids love this book because some can relate to it and the pictures are great! ( )

Leo was the littlest lightning bug that he knew. Not only was he little, he couldn't make a light like all the other lightning bugs. Then one day, after lots of practice, Leo finds the secret to making light--and learns something about himself and the value of self-confidence. Ages 4-7
