Some interesting ideas in this book, about being a neighbour in the Biblical sense, in a 'connected' technological world where we can be aware of needs all around the globe. The author encourages everyone to find something to be passionate about, to create what he calls 'heart links', and discover God's priorities.

Unfortunately it was rather spoiled by heavy use of jargon, and words such as 'leverage' used repeatedly as a verb, making it remarkably hard to read in places. There were also irritating references to seminars and videos to be accessed online, with free 'one-time' codes.

It felt sometimes as if the whole thing (which I downloaded free for my Kindle) were a marketing ploy for the author's site and products. While there were some useful insights, and plenty that made sense, it was hard to pause and think in the midst of so much enthusiasm. ( )

NCLA Review - The media and internet have made us aware of global needs. Our “neighbor” is no longer just the persons or problems that cross our paths. We want to give, but there is no way we can meet all the needs out there. Steve Moore, who has been active with Great Commission and has served in many nations, makes it easy for us to focus our charity. He suggests we PageRank ourselves, Google-fashion, to learn what God would have us do, to see His direction. We fill in the “query box” with our passions, our interests, our gifts and experiences, to see where God has been leading us. He goes into more detail than would seem necessary, with diagrams and charts, but his basic message is that God has been preparing us all along to know His plan for us. We can, therefore, know when to say “No” in good conscience and when we must give with all our being.
An unusual feature of this book is frequent references to websites that will provide backstory videos to the ideas presented. Rating: 4 —EB ( )

In the story of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10), Jesus calls us to be a neighbor by showing compassion to those in need. Even more, this teaching beckons us to cross boundaries and barriers (cultural, social, linguistic, national, etc.) to show and share the mercy of God. The world, however, is now flat. We are quickly overwhelmed by the news of famines, wars, and disease. Global travel, the internet and 24/7 news channels, however, mean that in today's world the need is ever present. How do we live out Jesus' call to show mercy in an ever-connected world? Moore challenges his readers not to grow apathetic, but to narrow-in on our God-given passions and engage in ministries of service, justice, discovery, and advocacy (the four domains of passionate engagement). In this we connect with God's passion for the poor, oppressed, and lost. Moore's insights are relevant and impactful, although some of his metaphors and imagery is overdone (pagerank, heartlink, etc.). B ( )
