A collection of 47 interviews with VFL or AFL commentators in a Q & A format. The questions generally cover the art of commentary, the state of football, past and present, great players and great matches, and their broadcasting careers. The subjects range from elders like Tony Charlton, who provides a link with legendary pioneer caller Norman Banks, to younger emerging personalities. In between many major callers and several specialist callers of VFL/AFL footy from the 1960s until the current day are included. This includes some broadcasters from outside Victoria such as Ken Cunningham, Wally Foreman, George Grljusich, Roger Wills and Graham Cornes. The interviews are preceded by a short history of radio and T.V. footy broadcasting by Jim Main, and an autobiographical chapter by Don Hyde, himself a longstanding commentator. A fascinating book with some amusing anecdotes. A look at the very early days of footy commentary and broadcasting would be a valuable companion to this work. Mike Williamson of 'Jesaulenko You Beauty' fame is perhaps the only very notable caller not featured in this collection. aucune critique | ajouter une critique
