This is same author who wrote "Deadly Distractions," a legal thriller, which I enjoyed (I gave it 4 stars in my review). In my opinion, he should stick to that genre and either forget sci fi or educate himself further. For some reason, the writing itself is nowhere near as good in this book. Perhaps he lost a good editor or decided to give us his first draft. (I see he's got both a 2010 and a 2012 edition out; I think I've got the 2010 edition.) This book is aimed at YA, many of whom may be indiscriminating enough to enjoy parts of the story. The writing is clunky, people are unforgivably dumb, physics go crazy, and the military is unprofessional and unrealistic. I couldn't resist reading parts aloud to my husband (a military historian) to share laughter--unfortunately, the humor is unintentional. Internal consistency is lacking. But if you like bad sci fi movies, you might enjoy this, despite having to wade through often tedious dialog and repetitions of several scenes. Don't fear... this is an alternate Earth, where marines continue standing at their posts after the president is kidnapped instead of being instantly questioned, and nobody thinks to watch surveillance films for a bit. Congress is dreadfully slow calling an emergency session and everyone forgets what they did during the anthrax scare--obviously can't meet if somebody takes over the building, right? Our hero is what? a military genius? Not in this book. And what are seafolken doing with the Purists? Just couldn't resist the scene of them fishing? C'mon... BTW, the "flashy-thingy" was fine in "Men in Black," but that was a comedy, dude. In the "final" episode of the Tarizon series, the Purists set off to Earth after a couple of skirmishes. There are battles in space, and political machinations on both Tarizon and Earth. Both Fleets reach Earth and fighting ensues. Who shall prevail? A complex narrative pushes the reader deeper in the world of the story with concise descriptions and lively characters. This episode has lots of emotion, action, military maneuvers, politics, and drama. Compared to prior episodes, without giving too much away, the characters really seem to come alive and show how much they have developed since the quest began. This whole series has been somewhat difficult to review as there is much I could say, but it would give too much plot away. Therefore, I shall just say this: Overall, a thrilling read. aucune critique | ajouter une critique

Videl Lai is dead and Tarizon's cataclysmic civil war is over, or so most people think until Tarizon's Intergalactic Fleet refuses to surrender. Then Videl Lai's adopted son, Evohn Cystrom, masterminds the escape of Rupra Bruda, recognized to be the father of the Purist movement. As the Fleet defiantly leaves its moon base on Clarion, Cystrom informs Chancellor Lorin Boskie that they intend to travel to Earth, conquer it, and someday come back and destroy Tarizon. The Chancellor, at great personal political risk, puts together a rag-tag armada of Earth Shuttles to try to beat the Purists to Earth and warn the American government of the impending invasion. The odds of the Loyalist armada reaching earth before the Purists, or even surviving the trip against the powerful Purist fleet, are long but Commander General Leek Lanzia is determined to save Earth and destroy the Purists once and for all. This story follows Lorrin and the child she shares with her mate. Lots of politics and how to survive where they are located.
Lots of new characters to get a handle on for me. Lots of cool things happen in this one. Like how when they arrive on the Earth they don't even know how to eat an apple but they find out so much more.
Love how they are able to run a ranch at no cost...
So many things occur that you'd not even imagine-like how the story is told.
Received this review copy from the author and this is my honest opinion. ( )
