Squire William Raven has only one goal--to finally receive his spurs and become a knight. When his lord, Sir Robert de Cantilou, returns from a five-year crusade in the Holy Land, William wants nothing more than to impress him. After Sir Robert's return, noble guests arrive from France, bringing intrigue to the castle. William is oblivious to the politics, as he's distracted by nightly visits from a faceless lover--a man who pleasures him in the dark and then leaves--a man he soon discovers is none other than his master, Sir Robert. But William can't ignore the scheming around him when he overhears a plot to murder Robert. He becomes intent on saving his lord and lover from those who would see him killed... 31,000 words… (plus d'informations)

Historical romance is near the bottom of my "must read" genres. So as much as I am a fan of Aleks' work I was a bit leery of this one. I tend to expect great things from Mr. Voinov. As with a good amount of his work the only thing I can complain about is the length of the story. This peek into the lives of William and Robert was short but complete in it's emotional growth and sincerity. I would love to see more scenes from this story ;) ( )

Reading historical books for me is always a challenge and finding one that keeps me interested till the end is very rare...
that said "The Lion of Kent" entered that short list rightfully!

I really enjoyed the byplay of the various characters and, most of all, I liked the way William and Robert fitted each other so well while being so different! ( )

Great writing, knights in shining armour, hot smexing...what more could I ask for? Further adventures of Richard and William, perhaps! ( )

Hmm...I was excited to read The Lion of Kent--a book by AV, a fantastic author (I haven’t read the other author before), set in medieval times with macho knights measuring swords with cocksure squires (haha!)...what's not to love?

But sadly, I was underwhelmed. The traitor’s reason for betrayal was hackneyed, IMO. At no point in the book did William come across as especially leonine, although he was the “Lion” in the title. He just seemed brash, hot-headed and eager to impress. And Robert was a generic knight. I didn't really get his motivations for sleeping with William beyond the fact that W was willing and available.

Am I being too demanding? Probably, but I do think a longer book would have allowed for more backstory, more world-building and just been meatier. ( )

The Lion Of Kent was great medieval read from by Aleksandr Voinov and Kate Cotoner. The book was well paced and had some grubby sex between Sir Robert de Cantilou and his squire William. Although suffering a little from being such a short story at around 100 or so pages, the book had great pace, tension and characters. It did end a little abruptly, but I hope this means they’re going to carry on the series as I’d definitely like to read more.
