When Sophie discovers the little boy she looks after has been strangled with one of her shoelaces she panics thinking she could have killed him. This isn't the first time she has been unaware of things around her. She goes on the run but her life continues to spiral out of control with more mayhem everywhere she goes. We also meet Frantz who seems to have an unhealthy connection to Sophie but what is it and who is he? What an amazing read from this author who I hadn't come across before - where have you been? We follow her as her mind breaks down and she is no longer able to function without writing everything down. The tension is palpable and the reader is on her side willing her on to keep ahead of the authorities as she is constantly on the move. Why does she feel she has to live this way and who or what is the truth behind the reality of her narrow existence? This is an amazing psychological thriller and praise must also go to the translator from the original French as it really doesn't read like a translation at all but as if written in English originally. The final part where we learn the truth is a roller coaster ride leading to the final denoument which is astonishing in its finish which I didn't see coming at all. If you enjoy Nordic Noir then you will be a fan of this book. I received this book book from Real Readers in exchange for my review. aucune critique | ajouter une critique
