I have to be honest, I was hesitant to read this book. Why? This will have been the 3rd book in a short period of time where the heroine comes across as a bit obsessive. Is this the new trend of the moment? Because I don't like it. Obsessed with boys, obsessed with an older sister, whatever they're obsessed it, it makes them seem a touch psychotic and unbalanced.

Thankfully, Brooke wasn't obsessed so much that she crossed over that psychotic line. LOL Yeah she had a crush on a boy and worked things her way so she could move to be closer to him. Kudos girl, taking control of your life. But she didn't seem so crazy desperate that it turned me off. She kind of closed herself off from making new friends to remain true to the friends she left behind, but some people still broke through her shell. I liked that more than anything - that she made friends despite herself. It was also a bit bittersweet on the other hand when her old friends back in Jersey moved on in her absence. Boys will come and go, but your friends are what really matter. And it hurts when your friends move on.

I was also afraid that Brooke was going to be the biggest brat towards her father. Again, I was wrong. LOL I was wrong about so many things with this book! So I think the blurb does this book a bit of a disservice, because if you're sick of seemingly psychotic heroines as much as me, there's no way you'd want to read this.

But it's about more than a girl going after a boy she likes, it's about making new friends and finding beauty in places you'd never think to look. ( )

Quick, fun read! I loved this book and couldn't put it down. The writing is swift and easy and the characters and story just pull you in. Great book! ( )

Since I’m currently on a kick for contemp reads, I picked up another book I bought a while back. It certainly wasn’t what I thought it was, but gave me a good read.
1. Infatuation. This book has loads in it. I don’t think I ever read a book where a teen was so infatuated with something that she changed her whole life to get it. I think though because she changed her whole life, that it did help her snap out of it at the end.
2. Plot. The plot is good and moves at a good pace. The only thing that bothered me was getting the main character to wake up! That took a while.
3. Characters. There are some minor characters that really help bring this infatuation to light. And thank God for that. Some points I really got annoyed with Brooke cause I just wanted her to see, that what she sees is not real!
4. Fake Love. There is not insta-love but a fake love that gets dragged on and on. Not to mention that there is not another guy to come help and remedy this odd situation. Instead, Brooke ends up finding herself. Still, I would have enjoyed it better had she found true love.
5. Finding yourself. It takes a lot of courage to face up to something you thought was real. I mean, you invested so much time and effort in it and to finally come clean that maybe what you saw was a bit too much, it’s a big step. I’m glad that in the end, Brooke found the strength to do that. After all was said and done, she came to terms with what she did, owning up to the problem she created.
Overall, So Much Closer is a good book. If you can handle the bout of infatuation and the teenager who’s head is always in the clouds, then try this book. A moving plot with good characters, So Much Closer is good. ( )

Oh wow, that was one seriously dumb protagonist. The reader is constantly reminded that she's some sort of gifted genius but she makes hilariously stupid decisions. 3 stars for sweet guy, John, and also because the book gives an interesting perspective on a few things. Colasanti is no Sarah Dessen, though.

Favourite quotes:
“The stupid thing about anger is how people hurt you and then you let them keep hurting you by being angry about how they originally hurt you. It’s a vicious cycle.”

“Physical attraction that strong is addictive. And knowing that kind of magic isn’t just a fantasy makes me want to find it again. But what about being with someone who makes me a better person? What about sharing my life with someone who adores me as much as I adore him, whom I can always count on, who helps me find my way when I’m lost?”

“Waiting for my real life to start is no excuse to waste the life I have right now.”
