I actually learned way more than I thought I would!! I really enjoyed it!

I really enjoyed the theme of God won’t let others kill you until he is ready for you to come home. God has perfect timing.

Notable Quotes:
“She knew God would let her keep going as long as He wanted her to. Then He would call her home. She had nothing to fear, so Harriet feared nothing.”

“When the time is come for me to go, the Lord will let them kill me.”

Things to be aware of in “Harriet Tubman: Freedom’s Trailblazer:”

Language:
- 12 “stupid” or “stupidest”

Violence:
- Many things sensitive readers may not appreciate such as: branding with a hot iron, ears being cut off, and hangings.
- Whipping
- Harriet imagines shooting someone: “If she could get a gun, she thought . . . she pictured shooting Miss Susan first. The screams. The blood.”

Romantic Content:
- Harriet informally marries John Tubman. They have an argument, and then she runs to freedom. When she returns for him, he has a “new wife. A real one . . . with papers.”

Spiritual Content:
- Harriet claims to have had visions throughout the entire book.
I was very pleased with the amount of prayer and Scripture that was in this book! It was so refreshing!

Additional Notes:
- Obviously this book is about slavery so if that is not familiar, discussions may need to happen before reading the book.
- A mention of throwing up that sensitive readers may not appreciate.
- Young kids are said to be naked.
- Harriet prays for God to kill someone and he does end up dying

Nicely illustrated picture book that introduces the changing nature of our cosmology. Most major historical scientists that contributed to our changing understanding of the nature of the universe are referenced, but they are not named--but it will be obvious to the parent who is Newton, Galileo, etc. Good for younger children to introduce the idea that we have not always understood things the same way as we do now, and that our current understanding might change too.

Back matter includes a brief timeline (with named historical figures) and a "for more information" section & bibliography… (plus d'informations)

I think the message of this book is really important for young people to pick up on. Basically, that message is that science can be wrong and that our understanding of the world evolves over time.

That beings said, the illustrations and writing are a touch on the lame side. But for content it gets the big thumbs-up.
