When studying the Bible remember these two ideas--Interpretation is irreducibly communal, an act of listening to and participation with others who have been spoken to and have spoken for what they found.

As you read this article, contemplate the meaning of the phrase "but he had to" in the story of Jesus' choice to go through Samaria when other routes were avaliable. Jesus has to go through Samaria not because Samaria is on His way, but because Samaria is on His mind. Communication is also body language, facial expression, eye contact or an avoidance of eye contact, and tone of voice.
