Victoria Platova

Russian chick lit about a young woman who's uncomfortable with her weight (someone once called her a fat toad and her high-flying mother has rejected her) and becomes a home care worker for the elderly and terminally ill after high school graduation. The book feels a bit too stuffed with the heroine wishing she looked like Catherine Zeta-Jones and imagining how she could meet her favorite singer... which is too bad because Platova's ability to combine humor, loneliness, and the fear of death results in a few memorable scenes.… (plus d'informations)

Omdat het boek in verschillende talen vertaald is, de schrijfster in Rusland bekend is als scenarioschrijfster en het eerste boek dat ik van haar las me nogal beviel, verwachtte ik veel van dit boek. Helaas viel 't nogal tegen. Het begint als een detectiveverhaal, ontwikkelt zich tot een soort thriller, wordt weer een detectiveverhaal en eindigt als een soort damesroman.
