- Sidsel Mørck was born and raised in Sandefjord, Norway.
Her step-grandfather, Dimitri Dimitrivich Koloboff, whom she called dad, came to Norway from Russia in 1920. His journey was the subject of Mørck's book Pappa – en russisk flyktning (Pappa -- A Russian Refugee, 2010). She
made her literary debut in 1967 with the poetry collection Et ødselt sekund (English translation: A Wasteful Second). Since then, she has published more than 30 novels, short stories, and collections of poetry for adults and children. From 1968 to 1978, she lived in the industrial area of Norsk Hydro in Porsgrunn, which sparked a long-time commitment to environmental protection. She has written more than 120 articles on social issues, particularly environmental conservation and industrial pollution, and given a number of public lectures. In 2013, she received the Ossietzky Award for extraordinary contributions to freedom of speech, in recognition of her strong social commitment, particularly to women's affairs, gender roles, and the environment. She also received the Vestfolds litteraturpris in 2009. Mørck is an active social debater and columnist.
She served on the board of The Sophie Prize, an international environment and development prize awarded annually from 1998 to 2013.
