Lindsey German is convenor of the Stop the War Coalition, which organized the biggest demonstration in British history against the Iraq war. She lectures at the University of Hertfordshire and is the co-author of A People's History of London (2012) and author of Material Girls (2007).

An at times lively history of London that concentrates on the people rather than royalty or the corridors of power. A People's History of London ranges over the last 1000 years, covering peasants' revolts, the Civil War, Marx & Engels, immigration, Sir Oswald Mosley and lots of people being killed for protesting (or just being in the wrong place at the wrong time).

The highlight is the section about the Levellers of the English Civil War which shows women at the forefront of protest in England in a way not repeated until the suffragette movement arose in the late nineteenth century.… (plus d'informations)

A fairly predictable skim through a history of radical movements in London. Mostly entertaining but short on analysis.
