St. Helena Story, by Dame Mabel Brookes (read 3 Mar 2002) This is a 1960 book by an Australian woman who is the great-granddaughter of a man who was an official on St. Helena during part of the time that Napoleon was there. She tells a quite interesting story about her great-aunt, Betsy, who was an early teenage girl Napoleon was attracted to and literally "played with." The book is quite detailed in regard to the conditions existing during the time Napoleon was a prisoner, his death, burial, and subsequent removal of the body (in 1840) to Paris, where every tourist who wants to can see the sarcophagus in its imposing building. I found this book of surprising interest, even though I think I took it from the library by mistake, intending to take a book about Napoleon's sister which was shelved apparently beside it!… (plus d'informations)
