2) Finch, Robert, (1900–1995) An American by birth, Finch taught French at the University of Toronto from 1928 to 1968 and was an accomplished painter and musician as well as a poet. His first book, Poems (1946) won him the Governor-General’s medal. Also Dover Beach Revisited (Toronto: U Toronto Press 1961) and Acis in Oxford (Toronto: Macmillan 1961), which also a Governor-General’s medal. He was elected to the Royal Society in 1963, and received the Lorne Pierce Medal in 1968.
