It was a favor to a dead friend: Frank Morgan is shepherding a group of mail-order brides to a brawling Alaska boomtown called Skagway. A bushwhacking, a storm-racked sea voyage, and an anything-but-friendly reception isn't enough to stop Morgan and his blushing brides. Wherever Frank Morgan travels, there is sure to be action! After entering a town and not going very far, a bushwhacker makes his move on the Drifter. Soon afterwards, Frank meets up with a man who he fought alongside some years back. When Frank’s plans are changed, it seems that he is going north to Alaska as a guard for mail order brides. The arduous journey turns deadly when Frank must swim to get to shore before he freezes to death. No sooner does he get through that then things really heat up when Frank and his party are set upon by bandits. Due to the extreme cold and the threat of snow, no moss can grow under the Drifter’s feet. He knows he must help rescue the women and get the task he agreed to done so he can return to warmer weather.
Like his other adventures, some folks always seem to be shooting at him and wanting to take what he has away. But those who cross the Drifter’s path sure don’t believe that he is a man who still has enough bark on him to make the wrong doers pay. The mail order brides must get through a snowstorm. When they do, a surprise even Frank doesn’t see coming appears!
Now, all must band together to defeat two characters’ plans for a greedy takeover of mines and hope that when the smoke clears life looks more promising! The one character in the story that I remember hearing about some time back is a man called Soapy Smith. If readers will look up information on him, they will find he was quite the character in real life.
I enjoy when the author brings real historical people into a book and sets a character in new settings to see what happens. I have only two more books in the series, and I wish there were more. Frank Morgan, also known as The Drifter or Last Gunfighter, is a man with no retreat in him. Frank has taken on some very tough and ruthless antagonists. and it’s been fun to read the series from start to finish! Enjoy western action and adventure along with some romance!
