Kearsten says: This one was very fun. First of all , I love books about the Old West. And Arley, though young and orphaned, is really doing well. She now owns a boarding house (her father owned it before he blew himself up in his own mine), and knows her own mind. She also loves reading, like me, though she devours Penny Dreadfuls, about adventure and love – they’re her way of escaping. There’s also some mild love stories, which I always love having thrown in! Fun read set in an old mining town in 1888. 16 year old orphaned Arley runs a boarding house for miners who aren't having much luck mining. When a mysterious stranger comes to town offering to buy these worthless mines, Arley and her friends become suspicious and start investigating. Fun read with villians set in the Old West. And the cover, who can resist the dog?? Not me, it's why I picked up the book :) ( )

Jean Ferris strikes again! Literally! This book is set in the wild west. A former boom town, now bust, is filled with leftover miners still hoping for pay dirt. A stranger arrives on the monthly train and sets the town to gossiping. Who is this stranger and what does he want? Most importantly… WHY!
See if our heroine can save the day. ( )
