'Why are you here? I mean - who are you, exactly?' An archaeological dig in 1936 unearths relics of another time... And - as the Doctor, Amy and Rory realise - another place. Another planet. But if Enola Porter, noted adventuress, has really found evidence of an alien civilisation, how come she isn't famous? Why has Rory never heard of her? Added to that, since Amy's been travelling with him for a while now, why does she now think the Doctor is from Mars? As the ancient spaceship reactivates, the Doctor discovers that nothing and no one can be trusted. The things that seem most real could actually be literal fabrications - and very deadly indeed. Who can the Doctor believe when no one is what they seem? And how can he defeat an enemy who can bend matter itself to their will? For the Doctor, Amy and Rory - and all of humanity - the buried secrets of the past are very much a threat to the present... A thrilling, all-new adventure featuring the Doctor, Amy and Rory, as played by Matt Smith, Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill in the spectacular hit series from BBC Television.… (plus d'informations)

I really enjoyed this story! The idea of a planet out there inhabited with aliens made of wool made me laugh ( )

I've read a few of the Doctor Who tie-in novels, and this one is one of the best. It shows another side of Rory and has a really interesting plot. Definitely recommended to anyone who likes Doctor Who :) ( )

This was one of the best, if not the best, Doctor Who tie-in novels I've read. It was very nearly perfect. The story itself was quite good. Very interesting plot - the villains could've possibly been a bit more fleshed out (my only complaint and a minor one at that), but it was really very enjoyable. The best thing about it, and really the most important aspect of any Doctor Who book in my opinion, was the characterizations of the Doctor and his companions. This one included Matt Smith's Doctor with Amy and Rory, and they were so true to the show that it certainly could've been the script for an episode. It was just an all around fantastic book that I'd highly recommend to anyone who likes the show. ( )

This is one of the best New Who books I have read, and certainly the most mature of the standard range of Eleventh Doctor novels (which I felt generally have been written for a younger readership). The plot is an alien conflict being played out in rural England in 1936, but the point is the rather good exploration of the regular characters - particularly Rory, from a point in time shortly before his wedding to Amy - and a lot of squeeful continuity references. And I detected a load of other literary allusions in the story as well: I don't think I'm completely imagining either Lady Chatterley's Lover or Agatha Christie (I almost wrote that Russell did The Unicorn and the Wasp, but of course that was Gareth Roberts). Anyway, this one is highly recommended to those fans of previous ranges of Who novels who have felt something a bit lacking in the New Series Adventures. ( )
